Any way to compare anything or all anicdotal other than UOA's. Have sent the synpower in for a UOA.

Like the moly & boron add in Ultra that synpower does not have.

3.5L Gm engine approx 9k miles (5k on synpower).

Know Ultra has longer tbn but anything else to look for? Synpower still looked great on the stick as it should for 5k, know could have went longer but not concerned with long OCI's as I save enough doing my own changes.

Regards,

You'll probably have to try them both and decide how they are in your particular application. UOAs will give you some good, comparative metrics if you a) run the same OCI length, b) use the same type of filter, and c) run the vehicle under similar conditions.

I've used both SynPower and Ultra in my Nissan and my butt-dyno can't tell a difference. They were both good oils for my 2.5-liter I4.

Seems like you can smell them though. SynP has a unique odor. Like hot rubber crossed with moly grease. Faint though.

Synpower has always looked weak to me in uoa. Also looked like a short run oci oil, but I've heard many say it made there engine quiet.

Does anyone know where their base oil comes from or is it in-house?

I just dont see using a synthetic oil if you can't get at least 10,000 miles out of it.

I've noticed that too. I assumed it was the add pack, but that's just a guess.

Does that info come from a guy in the diner or actual info. that is almost reliable???

Synpower uses the "HyperZDP" additive system from Lubrizol.

I browsed through some of Lubrizol's documents and couldn't find any specific details about the ingredients that make up HyperZPD. Maybe try contacting Lubrizol to get this info? Or, buy a quart of Synpower and find a lab that can do an expensive in-depth VOA that might reveal some of what's in it?

Depends on the driving conditions. I wouldn't hesitate to run it 7500 and then sample it.
