UOA- Castrol Edge 5w30, 4810 OCI, 2021 F150 3.5 EB

2021 F150 3.5 EB, bought used at ~48k. History showed dealer changes following OLM. The moly in this sample seems low compared to other edge UOA I’ve seen. Have a current fill of edge (FL-500S filter), will likely switch to whatever is on sale and stick to 5k OCI.

Every flavor of Castrol Edge I've seen lately has at least 18ppm Titanium. Can you tell us more about this specific oil that was tested? I'm curious if Castrol has recently removed the Ti from their formulation.

Regular “Castrol EDGE 5W-30 Advanced Full Synthetic Motor Oil” (black bottle). 5 quart bottle purchased 7/24 from Amazon, 1 quart of same purchased 7/24 from Walmart.

I’m also curious about the moly, other recent Edge samples have been higher. I have another fill of Edge in now, probably going to use something else next time and re-test.

This is the newest iteration that is marked Dexos1 Gen3. According to their PDS:

the viscosity should be 11.3. This sample weighed in at 10.5. Overall a pretty decent looking additive package, typical 6.5ish TBN and oxidation of 6. According to Lake Speed, a bump in oxidation in high mileage oils indicates presence of esters as additional seal conditioners. I don't know what the oxidation value of the non-HM version of this oil is, though.

My UOAs of Edge 5w30 have titanium in them too, as recent as my last one a month or two back

Great results. Doesn’t look like the oil needs titanium.

Titanium has been gone for a couple years now. UOA dates don't represent when the oil was bottled. Your 2023 date could have come from a 2022 bottling. Even memberr fusseli's oil could have came from an older jug.

Need jug dates to make more sense on the whereabouts and disappearance of Titanium.

I'm hoping Titanium makes a return.... at least inside the new labeled 25k Edge Gold jugs.
