Switched from T-Mobile to US Mobile

Well I finally took the plunge… T-Mobile did in fact add $10/month to my plan and I refuse to use a company that promised me “we’ll never raise your rate!”
yeah gotta love 2024 the year the “un carrier” became like the others.
1st telling me they will no longer accept auto pay from my credit card and if I don’t give them my debit card my rate will go up $5 a month, then if not enough months later raising my rate that $10

Bye bye and back to MVNOs which I’ve used for over 12 years before them 2 years ago.
BTW US Mobile with Verizon has been working fine since switching over 5 weeks ago. I like having the option to switch networks right from my US Mobile web portal should I want too

So far it’s great, I have USABLE service at church now! Even in the basement!!

T-Mobile better honor their “un carrier” commitment to pay my last months service on account of them raising the rate or I will go scorched earth.

I’d like to save some money, but we pay $89/month for two lines with T-Mobile, including discounted Netflix (basically half off). I can’t imagine the prepaid savings being worth it.

To be fair, I’m on an oldish Military Magenta 1.0 plan. I hope it stays the same for a while to come. Our phones are 2.5 years old, so we should be good to go for a while.

Depending on how much data the two of you use, the $28 shared data plan would probably be plenty. That leaves you $61 a month in savings, which is more than enough to cover a top-tier Netflix plan subscription.

US Mobile we pay $66 less a month, $33 (actual payment) for two lines and 12 GB shared data.
Granted taking into account the Netflex credit you get we pay $59 less a month.

All good what we buy and consider worth it is an individual choice. This a significant difference though.
T Mobile offers more data at that price and it should. But you can opt for more data in the US Mobile plan and still pay 30% less.
(Ugh, I see @14Accent replied much the same already!)

The Netflix credit on the bill is $6.99 for basic Netflix with ads. You can then upgrade and pay the difference and it gets added to your bill. That is what we did. All in all for a major provider T-Mobile two lines at $70 for the Magenta 55+ with all the perks, one of which was the monthly $6.99 discount wasnt a bad deal. Our net cost was $63 and we were paying Red Pocket $50 when we switched. They also gave us two new iPhone 13s at the time in exchange for our older iPhones. I figured the cost difference was $300 over two years and we got $1,600 in phones.

However recent obnoxious requirement of switching from CC payment to Debit card AND then the "UN-CARRIER" as they advertise raising our rate 15% to $80 a month, well, bye by to them... and thanks to your posts I am now doing way better then I used to do with RedPocket. I mean how stupid simple, $33 for 2 lines on Verizons network. There are other good plans out there as well but this one works best for us as we dont use more than 12Gb a month of data but I do have us on auto top off if we exceed. I think a reasonable $4 for every additional 2GB of data and if you dont use it all it carries over. Of course for a few more dollars you can simply select a plan with more data but my wife and I dont need it. We use our phones A LOT but much of it is on a WiFi network.

I have a question for you: You mentioned the switching networks feature - is that what they call "teleport"?

I'm looking at the lowest ("flex") plan and it mentioned you can do so twice without a fee. Do you know if you can switch from one to the other and then keep that one indefinitely (no timeout or auto reverting back)?

I'd like to switch to USM, but their website seems a little lacking (and their terms "teleport", "warp", "darkstar" - just say verizon, tmo, or att).

All I can say is from my Web portal for our US mobile account I can switch from warp service, which is Verizon to GSM service which is T-Mobile

I haven’t looked any further into it so not sure if I can accurately give you any answers other than what I just said meaning my interpretation was and I believe 14 accent as well is let’s say Verizon wasn’t working out well for me. I could then go and switch to their GSM T-Mobile without having to call them

As far as those other words, you have mentioned, I have an no knowledge of them.
I did go to the section of my portal, which would allow me to switch to GSM and have not seen any other conditions
I’ll check it out again one day when I have time, but I don’t think there is anything more to it than what I just said and maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think so. Then again I haven’t looked into any further.

This hasn’t helped much! 🙃

Yes, being able to switch networks on a whim is the teleportal function. Yes, if you switch once, you have the other switch still on your account. The unlimited premium plans can switch as many times (within reason) as you want, for free. The non-premium plans are the 2 free and then $2 each switch.

WARP is Verizon, Darkstar is ATT, GSM is Tmobile.

Yes, on the lowest plan, they refer to changing carrier networks (e.g., Verizon to T-Mobile) as a teleport.

Once you select a carrier, your service remains on it unless you process a teleport to change it.

So with all the words aside that US mobile uses. I take this and always have as should I have a have an issue with Verizon service I can choose another carrier such as T-Mobile and I can do it right from the web portal instead of calling US mobile switch.

For me when I choose a carrier I stick with it as long as I don’t have any issues. I’m still a little on the fence with Verizon as all around it works well and better than T-Mobile as far as having a connection but I think T-Mobile might be a little bit quicker, yeah it is an issue in our area with T-Mobile when inside of buildings. I’m certain that is due to the fact that T-Mobile’s 5G network is way more robust at a cost of their GSM network being weak. And T-Mobile switching between the 5G and the LTE seems to run into issues inside of buildings.

I don’t really have interest in switching back-and-forth than once
For others who don’t know, Verizon is called warp service and T-Mobile is called GSM service with US mobile.

I will most likely stay with Verizon, but sometimes out of curiosity I want to switch just to try out yet. My previous carrier was T-Mobile so I know what to expect.
My question is has anybody in here used the web portal to switch back-and-forth and if so, did you have issues as far as reconfiguring messaging and such on an iPhone?

No issues configuring anything. I switched from GSM to Warp the day it went live. Took about 10-15 mins and was good to go.

Good info gents.

My main (home) phone is now on a cell with Redpocket (ATT). I also have a second phone on T-Mo. As of a couple of years ago the T-Mo signal is about 15 db stronger due to a new tower less than 1000 yards from my house. On the other hand, it seems call forwarding is only available on the Warp service.

I was considering Mint Mobile but US Mobile looks like perhaps a better choice.

I've been pretty happy with google fi.. but the price just increased again now at 99$ for 3 phones one of which uses .1gb data and about 30min talk./month

Different towers/companies is highly location dependent.
Tmobile towers were the pits.. but after their last round of upgrades I get 4 bars at work.
ATT for example gets 2-3bars to no service.
Verizon about the same as Tmobile.

I'm ready to make a move but the google fi phone deals(need to keep service for 120 days) and their fully included Canada roaming/calling are nice reasons to continue with them until they price me out and I move to someone else like Mint.

If your cell Red Pocket home line gets pricey remember Ooma, plugs right into your modem and works like any cable company landline does. Free accounts pay only whatever government taxes are in your area. We have used the device for well over a decade now jsut to have a home land line/rarely used. Over monthly cost is less than $7 a month. All you do is buy the device $100 and pay the monthly required landline taxes.

I’ve noticed that while doing a Speedtest t-mobile would be faster, but Verizon just seems to “always work.” Sure, it might be 5mbps on LTE, but that’s better than 0 on 5G (a common occurrence in my area). Call quality is vastly improved over T-Mobile though.

Small world in a way. This is my wife and I experience EXACTLY
Though in call quality TMobile was still ok when it was good signal but we did notice nice crisp voice with Verizon and Verizon works with the weakest of signal

I actually do have Ooma on hardwired home phones. Before porting the number I've had for decades over to cellular I would get disconnected occasionally with it. I now have it with a number I never really use, but has never gotten a single telemarketer call. It's the no frills plan and I keep it as a secondary technology backup. In fact it's part of the reason for exploring US Mobile - they offer call forwarding (but only on the WARP service, apparently).
