Itsy Bitsy Spiders Weaving Trouble.... Lead to Recall of Suzuki Cars

Suzuki has recalled about 19,000 Kizashi mid-size sedans in the U.S. because spiders drawn to gasoline vapors weave webs that can block a hose to vent those gases. Air flow blocked in the cars' evaporative emissions system can cause negative pressure in the fuel tank, which can lead to cracks and leaks that increase the risk of a fire, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Wednesday.This is a similar problem to one that prompted Mazda to recall the Mazda6 twice since 2011. No crashes or injuries have been reported in relation to this issue, Suzuki told NHTSA. Suzuki stopped selling cars in the U.S. market last year after nearly three decades, so NHTSA and Suzuki advise owners of 2010-2013 Kizashis to take their vehicles to authorized “service providers.” The remedy? A filter on a ventilation line to keep the spiders out. The Kizashi was one of the Japanese company’s best-sellers in the United States before the automaker decided to pull out.

Funny I have never had a spider problem till I moved down here by the beach. My truck is covered with little webs every morning. Must like the cool damp weather.

Here in Fl too, many mornings I walk out to find that the spiders were busy weaving webs over my Accord the night before.

But only 4cyl models. Our Mazda tech loved that recall, was bored one day and wrote a theme song for the spider spring based on the Simpsons movie Spider Pig song.

I was wondering the same....and what happened to all those 7yr/100K powertrain warranties? Are they down the drain?

Suzuki is not out of business. They just stopped manufacturing cars for, and selling cars in, North America.

Spiders have been camping in Toyota etc fuel vent hoses for years creating fuel filling problems.
A little off topic. I had never heard of a Kazashi till I read your post. No wonder they pulled out.

Apparently? Most of the local dealers listed either do not exist any more or no longer hang out a Suzuki sign at all. I wonder if they're really honoring warranties/recalls, or are taking the same approach to Suzuki that Suzuki took with them.

I'm not surprised they don't have a Suzuki sign outside. That real estate is for brands they're still selling.

Did you look at the link and you know for a fact the service centers listed in your area don't exist?

In my area, the few Suzuki dealers closed, but the service centers they list at that link still exist and I wouldn't worry about taking my car there if I owned a Suzuki.

The closest one listed to me is a big dealer that used to sell Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Honda and some other brands. The dealer still exists, they just don't sell Suzukis anymore, since there are no Suzukis to sell. But they still service them. In fact, they have a special website describing that they're a Suzuki authorized service center.

And to further substantiate this, a stand-alone Suzuki dealer that I know completely closed shop and is no longer functioning is not listed on that link.
