Good idea or bad idea? This is on a drag race car so flow is important. Or... should I just not be so cheap and put another K&N on it??

FWIW I run Mobil 1 syn in my A4!

If you check in the big filter catalogs for the major filter companies, WIX, Baldwin, etc., you'll see some filter listed as lube only, some as transmission only, and some are either lube or transmission.

I don't know the reason, but there is a difference. I've also found that you cannot always cross from one brand to another--some may show lube/trans and the cross only shows lube, for example. Two good choices are Baldwin B252 (identical Hastings HF978) and WIX 51622, all listed for transmissions, not lube oil.

For K&N filters, I'd suggest that you contact Champion Labs directly.

I ended up buying a NAPA Gold Transmission Fluid Power filter for my spin-on auxillary trans filter.

I wrote Champion Labs and they said NOT to use their K&N oil filter as they have never tested it with transmission fluid.

I guess you should always use a filter designed for the fluid you are filtering. By the way...
Perma Cool never responded to my e-mails as to why all the filters they recommend with their kit ARE oil filters?

I don't like a lot of these systems because they use filters intended for engine oil and see a max pressure of maybe 90psi. A transmission can see 200 or more psi.
