I am using IE, the downloads are work related, and there is no way that anything but the set software is going to be allowed.
The problem isnt the software anyway, and google chrome wouldnt fix it - google is the problem.
The issue is that they use an intermediate google site for every click you take from their page.
For example, if I search for bob is the oil guy on google, and then copy the shortcut, it isnt the URL.
Instead it is some ridiculous thing:

So now imagine the URL isnt so simple... Rather is is something with a few different parts to the address... Or imagine it is a file.
For example, I wanted to download a file called "fundamentals of XAFS".
The google link is this:

So messed up I couldnt even pull the URL out if I wanted to. And if you right click the link and ask to save target, you get an html file to download. I dont see how chrome or anything will do any better.
The thing is that I want to be able to download, not load in IE, the files. Sometimes I need to because I am operating off an air card, and the download is just too slow and hangs IE up. If it was just downloading in the background versus a window, it would go along happily. I encountered exactly that multiple times today.
Google may search well, but the accessibility to the results leaves something to be desired in a big way.
