Pretty much the same here, my parents have Fios though and they have a back-up battery. I'm not sure how long it's supposed to last though...

Some don't, a lot do here. It seems to me that sound quality was better when we had the analog network here, with some of the high power phones. Now, some of this stuff has such a short lifespan (since everyone wants a new phone every two years) and poor quality components and even poorer software. Sound fading in and out is common, making it sound like Skype or other poor audio compression or a duplexing issue as if they were on speaker phone. But, I hate cell phones with a passion, so I just might be biased. I hate the telephone in general. One that's with my all the time is that much worse.

They're already zoned out - a typical meeting.

Supposedly the battery on the system will last for 8 hours. I have FIOS as well and that's what I've been told.

Still out as of this morning. I had to put in a complaint with the public service commission because they said they'd send a technician and nobody showed up. Happened last time, too.
