I've always mostly stayed away from STP products for fear they have been squeezed out of snakes. Recently though I've become a little more concerned about the new oil specifications and how that effects the old style engines I like to drive. (I don't have a cat, give me some leaded gas for crying out loud!)

I'm just wondering if the "blue bottle" stuff is worth a try for some extra ZDDP? Other ingredients? Definately not talking about the stop leak/compression increasing/oil thickening garbage. I'm sure this must have been talked about before but the search couldn't find anything...

I hate it when people refer to "STP" like it's just one thing. They make more than one product.

Why wouldn't you use Rotella, which sounds like exactly what you want, rather than hope STP or any other additive/oil combo will give you what you want?

I don't think that the "blue bottle" STP contains much if any ZDDP. IIRC there is a 4 cylinder version that does, I believe its a red bottle. But as suggested above I would just go with a good diesel rated oil.

If you're looking to boost ZDDP with an additive look into Red Line Break In Oil additive. It can be used to boost ZDDP, it won't thicken up your oil like STP will.

Thanks Demarpaint. I will bust the sweet young thing's aggies at the new Auto Zone down town and see if they can get me some Redline or STP Red. All my old school engines could use the ZDDP hit. I wouldn't be adding an oil thickener this time of yr. Good way to spin a bearing.

I bought a case of the red stuff from Auto Barn for 2.70 a bottle and since I bought a case, there was no shipping and handling.

I dont just use it in cars though. Works good when added to 20w50 oil for guns.

Good luck, unless the manager is within the sound of your voice getting a clerk to exert himself ordering something is a tall order. Especially if he isn't familiar with the product. Then if the manager is within the sound of your voice hopefully he isn't lazy, and is paid a % on commission. NAPA couldn't be bothered when I wanted them to order something for me. Their loss is someone else's gain.

As a side note check Amazon.com I bought mine from them a while ago and they had free shipping on any order over $25. Not sure if the deal is still on they're always changing it. I did manage recently to get RL Complete Fuel System Cleaner for a great price and shipped free, pretty sure that deal is still going on. HTH

It used to be a way to get a bit more zinc, but they've taken most the ZDDP out of STP now (reformulated).

Break in add's work best now. About 1.5 oz of lucas TB-zinc plus boosts 4.5 quarts by about 400 pm to a level of almost about 1200 ppm. Toss in two of
these bottles into the basket at amazon for free shipping and you're good for the next 20 oil changes.
