Moly Level In Engine Oil

Per LSJR (yeah, I know 😒), ICP is limited to particles in the range of ~4 microns while RDE is ~8 microns. Also, ICP requires the sample to be diluted while RDE does not.

The only element where I've really seen differences was in molybdenum in certain oils, and this was due to the types of molybdenum used in that oil.
Yeah I'd just switch over to Polaris/Oil Analyzers. I don't see any benefit to SD. Countless lab errors. Extra money for LSJ to look at it.

I purchased several HPL sample kits (Wearcheck) at $35 each vs Speediagnostix $70. SD's included shipping to the lab. When I sent a single sample to Wearcheck, UPS shipping using their website cost me $20 for a one pound box! I don't ship often, so have not used some of the more discounted shipping methods.

I sent two samples to Wearcheck earlier this week, a virgin HPL sample and a used oil analysis of the current oil being run. I've been trying to find the source of Manganese in the used oil analysis and thought it might be the 87 octane gas I've been using from Quik Trip, which is Top Tier certified. Now, after spending more time on Piloteers.org I'm pretty sure Honda is using Manganese/bronze valve guides in the J35Y8 engine, although everything I've found in writing says Honda is not using Manganese in this engine.

Oh yeah, this week's shipment cost $18 for the two samples, but its weight was still under a pound, barely (15.9 oz).

Good plan. How did you send them the samples? I looked on their website, and frankly couldn't find where/how to order kits and send samples.

The kits I buy from AMSOIL (OAI) include shipping.

The specific molybdenum compound? So it’s not being decomposed completely or is being filtered out by the ICP due to the particle size.
