Which Walmart already sells for $1.97 correct?
The STP I cut open had about 10% more filter area than the equivilent ST Both were solidly mid range between Fram and AC.
I think it will vary from one application to the next. For my Honda CRV I cut open a FRAM made Honda filter, a SuperTech and AC all specified for my vehicle. The AC had the shortest media and the least pleats of all 3 filters.
The Fram/Honda media is about the same height as the SuperTech. The Super Tech had more pleats than all 3 filters. The Fram/Honda filter looked a little fuzzy compared to the SuperTech and AC.
The ST did have the clicker valve on it. Is that type any good?
One more thing. The SuperTech and STP filter for my other car has the orange ADV. That’s silicon? I point this out because I don’t see that with the other ST’s and STP’s. I don’t know about the price of the STP but the SuperTech with the orange valve is $2.49 instead of $1.97

What is the filter number of the filters you opened and compared. I believe for the CRV it's either FRAM 7317 or 3593a.
The STP S3675 and the AC Delco PF59, both for my 02 Trailblazer look to be exactly the same filter, with different stickers on the side. Both say Champion Labortories, Inc. Made in the USA. Same blue can. Same endplate. Same center tube. Better yet the ADV seems to work, unlike the ST's I keep looking at and putting back on the shelve.

Yup, but I can't find the Supertech ST2827 filter at any Walmart within 100 miles of me. I dunno why they don't stock it anymore. Perhaps demand? I have plenty of STP Supertech clones now though.

Bought both 9100's they had for my Duramax, and got a 3980 for wife's Blazer. When I went back for the second 9100 on Sunday, they were all out of S2's, S5's, and 3980's. I must be the only guy in town with a Duramax that changes his own oil.
Maybe my ST was newer. My ST/STP comparison was several years ago. I found St, Purolator, and AC all 3 had less filter area this year than a few years ago for identical part numbers and the same size can. The AC still had far more area than the others.

That's funny, because I though that AC only gave non-GM filters to Champion Labs. Just goes to show that the relationships between brand names and manufacturer is always changing. Oil filters are fairly easy to figure out because of design differences. Does the same kind of switching back and forth occur with oil?
