Hello gang,
I just bought a 2018 Passat GT with the VR6 engine. Like any good Bitoger I immediately started shopping for oil and filters. To my surprise the majority of filters I am finding to fit the vehicle are in the $20 to $30 dollar range. The filter itself is a Fram equivalent of the CH11242 size. They are cartridge filters and don't look like anything special or rare to me.
The Napa Pro Select is 14 bucks at Napa but I passed when I picked up some oil on sale (Valvoline MST 5w40).
After looking around a bit I see Auto Zone has regular STP filters for the vehicle for 5 bucks and "Extended Life" filters for 9 dollars. Much more in line with what I figure a filter ought to cost, but I have zero experience with these filters. I don't even know who makes them.
Any info on quality, origin or filtering efficiency would be appreciated.
Thanks!
