Stop staring at the smart phones!

LOL. I knew the story you were posting before I clicked. At least he was up on what was going on with everyone before he hit bottom.

I don't disagree, but there is undeniable irony in the fact that this discussion is taking place on an Internet forum.

Not really. I can promise you I'm on a 27" iMac desktop. When I am away from my desk...I am away from any internet.

I was referring mainly to the idea that "life is out there...beyond that gizmo."

I don't have time to stare at a smart phone. All my free time is spent reading the posts of my beloved BITOG oil buddies. After all these years, I can read 5000 words a minute.

PS. I don't know how to use a smart phone anyway.

I started reading the dailymail article in the link, but I got distracted by all the British babes in bathing suits on the right side of the page. Good thing I am sitting at home.

I'm out and about every day...without a gizmo. I watch others...head bent forward...fingers constantly moving over the glass. Just weird to me. I can be at the most awesome locations...national parks....scenic attractions....historical areas....and I still see people endlessly goofing with a smart phone. Two seconds looking at the scenery...followed by ten minutes on the gizmo.
When I'm at home, I use my computer. I often look up places to visit locally or farther away...to enjoy "real" life....not a screen. Once I leave my house, I only carry a cheap flip phone for emergencies.

If he hadn't been out there enjoying nature he wouldn't have fallen off the cliff. Is that the message we should learn here?

If he would have thrown his phone off the cliff instead of staring at it...he's still be alive.
That's a lesson in itself.

Oh the irony of someone that posts all day long on BITOG complaining that people spend too much time on their smartphones.

The thing that really kills me is that it is pretty much a given now to have a 3-5 second delay from a light turning green to the lead car in line actually moving...because the driver is screwing around on their smartphone, of course. THey know they can make the light no matter what from that position, so who cares about screwing everybody else in line over??

Exactly! I've seen this happen so many times it isn't even funny. Ticks me off! That happened to me twice last week.

You remind me of an insect. Always buzzing around...irritating people.

Perhaps you hadn't noticed this is the holiday season? People with good jobs get this time of the year off. About 2 weeks paid time actually. This allows me ample time to spend at home enjoying many things, including the internet off and on.

I can't say the same about pests though. Never much liked them.

Too bad the only way I can better myself in this life is to stare at smartphones from 8-5

Also, I'm amazed you think you can simply "leave" the internet

That's not how this works, that's not how any of this works
