I just bought this car for my son and am doing its first oil change since we got it.I went with Super Tech 10W30 synthetic oil and a Purolator Pure One oil filter. He will be driving it on the interstate 70% of the week and 30% city driving the rest. What is a good mileage change interval with this type of driving? BTW,he averages 250-275 miles a week.

Waste.

ST?

In a vehicle that's easy on oil, such as a this Toyota, you could run ST conventional for 5k with no issues. Using the synthetic for 5k is just a waste of oil and of money.

Agreed. That's not wasting oil - it's not a great synthetic oil but offers enough over the price of dinos to make it worth while in 5k changes.

Nazareth, on what car have you been doing 7k oci with ST?

ST does extremely well with UOA with over 10,000 miles. ST is excellent oil.
Just because it costs a little less, remember, Walmart has that as part of its mandate, to sell good stuff cheap. ST does not skimp on quality, it has been serving millions and millions of miles with no problem. no one ever posted a bad UOA here with ST.
Use it with confidence, I do.

The low price is partly attributed to the fact that there is very low marketing cost for ST. Advertising, endorsements, and support for auto racing teams is very expensive.

I DID do a used oil analysis on it - my Dad's Canyon. The oil did very well, but Blackstone still recommended no more than 6,000 miles on it based on the TBN left, which was 1.5 when the oil had 5400 miles on it. My Dad loves it while I prefer Mobil 1.

a 88 cherokee 4.0l with 360k on the clock and a f150 4,9l with 180k. i jsut recently went to rotella 5w40 on the ford though

So true. Better cold flow, better hi temp protection just to name a few.

ST is group 3 largely, my rule of thumb for those is 1 year max, and approiate mileage 10-15k.Group 1, oldschool 2-3 months, group2 6 months. If want longer OCI's (1yr.+ and matching miles) group 4/5 are needed generally.
