Short oil change interval oil recommendation

and then :

so you claim first that for 1 5000mile oci even a group 3 will get the job done and dont have a significant difference with todays PAO based oils but later you hype for the superb base oil blend that includes PAO of esp 0-30 and critise the cheaper base oil of 5-30.
the you also say:

but you will choose a c3 oil bcs :

contradict again.so the conclusion is ,by your words that for a 5000 miles oci not any 5w-30 or 0w40 or 5w40 is the same.
so you agree with me!
It’s quite simple: tte differences are small enough not to matter for most people, but if forced to choose, I discriminate. I can split the tiniest hair.

So while I prefer ESP, the ability the prove it better empirically is beyond practical consideration. It’s philosophical.

I’m not sure why this is so confusing.

Seems like there are many other brands than ESP, though it's a good oil for euro vehicles, try to broaden out your OPINONS ,surprise us.

I have a 2025 Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek and I have already completed the engine break in with oil changes at 700, and 2200 miles already. I am currently at 4200 miles and am doing another oil and filter change. My plan is to run 3,000 to 3,500 mile oil changes after break in since these direct injection VQ engines are known to be extremely hard on oil. My question is since I am doing such short intervals, is there any benefit to spending the extra money on 0W20 Mobil ESP or would I realistically not experience any benefit vs like QS full synthetic? I am currently running Carquest Premium filters since they seem to have the best repeatable quality.
Run cheaper synthetic oil like Pennzoil Platinum and your Nissan will love you long time.

So what’s the consensus on Castrol GTX Full Synthetic for short(ish) OCI’s? I see this on sale all the time at good prices and was thinking of giving it a go.

I typically use Valvoline Advanced in my 2018 GMC Sierra 5.3 GDI with 5k mile oil changes. I short trip during the week maybe 5-10 miles every other day and then on the weekends I typically go about 100 miles round trip on the highway to take the kid back to school.

EDIT: Apologies, I should have started a new thread instead of hijacking.

i know what to choose:
i like this conversation.it combines fuel dilution and oil consumption from dirty piston rings, 2 major problems for DI engines.
i guess you mean not any 40 grade.the castrol you posted above ,from base oil side, doent have to do anything with the other 2 you mentioned . not all 5w40 or 0w40 are so good to hold visc100 at a good level. castrol 0w40 a3/b4 would be a better choice i think.
its you, that you give the impression from your replies that you are confused.at least with your final answer you cleared this out for us.

🍿
My guess many will say supertech will do you fine
Me I prefer kirkland, something about the bright blue container turns me off.
It,s the same oil
QS full syn would do you just fine
precisely. with 3k miles, i would get Kirkland or super tech. somehow I have never seen that, but everyone on this forum manages to get Kirkland at a steep discount

Nothing against NAPA full synthetic (currently in both my kids cars) or Lake but this video doesn’t prove much other than it’s a good choice with this particular race engine (heavily modified GM small block V8) under lab testing conditions. Unless you are driving a vehicle with a similar engine and similar modifications under similar conditions it’s not really applicable. You cannot take something so niche and extrapolate it across the board to the masses like this.
Yes, this is an excellent point, and it's been explained to him multiple times, yet he continues to make the same recommendation and use that video which has been picked apart here in numerous threads.

I am going to purchase oil this evening and see that Walmart sells the 5W30 Castrol Edge Euro car and the Mobil 0W30 ESP. Is one of these significantly better than the other for my application?
Castrol Euro Edge 5W-30 is very average. Castrol Euro Edge 0W-30 is excellent as is Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30. Skip the 5W-xx offerings from Castrol.

Did you read this thread before hijacking? It's actually been fully answered in this thread. See this post for why running cheaper oils for shorter intervals isn't necessarily a good idea.

I believe our (long gone) 1999 Maxima had a VQ engine although it was the 3.0. I also remember reading that these were excellent engines (Ward's 10 best winner IIRC) but hard on oil. I would use at least a 5w30 in Texas. If your doing OCs of 5K or less Kirkland, Quaker State, Supertech would all work fine IMO.

I would use Valvoline Maxlife 10w40 in it. It’s only $20 for a 5 quart jug at Walmart. It’s synthetic blend and it’s some nice thicker oil for that engine with a lot of miles. This oil is still pretty cheap which is perfect for a car like yours that consumes a lot of oil, and it supposedly works great in High Mileage engines. I would change the filter every 5k miles on a car like yours if you plan on keeping it, because the rings are probably very worn, that just means you’ll get more fuel and soot in the oil. If I were you I would too try to get to at least half a million miles if not more because why not. I’ve read many people say Maxlife oil has helped immensely with oil consumption, oil leaks, and the best part is it’s still pretty cheap. Perfect for a car like yours.
