Squirrel potpie?

I've never had it but it is on my list of 'strange' foods to try. I've looked for squirrel, possum items on menus in the South but have not seen it. I probably have not gone to the right eateries.

I can't believe Pablo hasn't eaten squirrel potpie.

Never cared for squirrel with dumplings, or as a stew. Used to really love my grandmother's fried squirrel though! The same preparation as souuthern fried chicken, but totally different taste (excellent).

That is till I had two fox (red) squirrels as pets for several years. Both female, great entertainment. Grew so attached that now eating squirrel would be much like some of you guys eating your cat!

Odd,,,

I've shot them, run over them with cars, tractors,,,maybe even a lawnmower, beat them to death (in the cat food and no gun handy), laid a stick across their neck and pulled their back legs 'till I broke their neck(cruel prig). NEVER smelled a 'possum! NEVER ate one either!!!

Them black and white striped critters are skunk!

Yeah, they really do eat possums in the South.

Heh. I have never heard of anyone round here eating one of those nasty varmints. They tell me that the meat is really greasy

. I am not going to eat anything that I have seen with my own eyes crawl out of a dead cows butt because he was munching on the dead insides. Once again

My great-grandpa ate possum. There was a lot of grease in the top of that 'ol pot when it was done. I've never eaten it though. He also ate raccoon.

In my 1960 Larousse Gastronomique, cooking a raccoon or possum involves first boiling the son of a gun in vinegar after cleaning and skinning, before any other cooking method begins.

Oh, I forgot to say that I've eaten quite a few squirrels after hunting them in the late afternoon right before supper. My grandma would FRY them but wouldn't eat it b/c they looked too much like a rat. My mom wouldn't even allow us to fry them in her skillet. She would have to throw the pan out. Nah, she would have probably just thrown us out first. Now, my wife would just as soon shoot me as me to shoot a squirrel since they are so cute to her. They are pretty neat.

Nobody I ever knew ate a possum, and I lived in the south until about 7 years ago.
I can smell a possum long before I see it. They smell the same alive as they do when they're dead.
Didn't care for my Aunt's fried squirrel much, but her pecan pies were worth fighting over.
