Mom used to make this a lot... been years since I've had it.

It's not the best looking dish , but I crave it every now and then.

I made that for the holidays last year after the older relative that used to bring it passed away.

The art and science of chicken farming has come a long way. Today, they can grow a chicken that produces three times the meat with the same amount feed as pre-1960's chickens, so adjusted for inflation, chicken is cheaper than it used to be and we eat a lot more of it.

How about $1.99/lb center cut pork chops. Had been that price for 3+ years.
Seems to have finally gone up to $2.49-$2.99. I was thinking wow a pig’s life is sold so cheaply.

As an adult, I can't in good conscience consume it for it's high sugar content.

My grandparents and great aunt & uncle, who were in their entertaining prime in the 50s/60s definitely loved to make this. And we loved it well into the 2000s…
