In Walmart, I saw a 5qt bottle of M1 15w-50. It's $25.

I'll be putting it in my Prius.

That's fine for the winter but just make sure you go with something thicker for the summer

Good grief! 15W50 Mobil 1 in a Prius! Is he going to cross Australia in the summertime there? At least it is synthetic. It is wintertime in the USA. Maybe 5W30 for the wintertime?

What is the required oil for your Prius, FoxS? Check the owner's manual. Maybe a 5W30 or 5W20?

And I was under the impression that Exxon/Mobil had stopped making 15W50 Mobil 1. I don't know that for a fact. If they did stop making it, how old is that oil?

A person needs to check their owner's manual for what viscosity of oil to use. My guess Mark it would be a 5W30 or 5W20.

There are not that many gasoline engine vehicles that require 15W50 motor oil today.

I'd love to have this oil here in this part of Saudi Arabia as an all year engine oil for my W124.

Yes, it is mentioned on the Owner's Manual. I only need to confirm that it has the MB229.1 approval.

I heard this grade is discontinued as well by Mobil 1.

It was SN and its on their US website. Looked new to me. I had actually been to 3 Walmarts in the last 5 days and only saw it in one of them for the first time.

No 229.1 approval.

It's been at my WM for a few years. It's great in air-cooled bikes. My BMW R-Series loved it. The Harley and metric cruiser crowd buy a fair amount as a great and cheaper alternative to the motorcycle-specific 20w-50.

It is used by a lot of bikers and alot of the hopped up turbocharged and supercharged guys are running it. You cant hardly find it here in the summer time. I run it in my harley, excellent wear numbers but it does shear a bit.

Old BMWs seem to like heavy oil. My car hated M1 0w40. too noisy. May try to use 15w50 this summer here in central KY. Little heavy even here in KY's fairly milld winter.

I`ve been using it for years. Excellent oil! Has a killer add pack (there`s a VOA on it here).

Speaking of 15W50 and members who`ve disappeared, whatever happened to Frank? He was an M1 15W50 user and always swore by it. I haven`t seen him post in several years.

Outstanding!

I heard on the internet (HAS TO BE TRUE, RIGHT?) that the new Prius has an oil heater and the oil is heated to 300F to improve fuel mileage but this requires the M1 15w-50 or BMW SAE 60 or H_D approved aircooled engine oil. This supercedes the 0w20 as that woul boil off with theh new oil heater. I would buy up the whole shelf of this stuff at walmart

It's out of warranty.

Now I can truly do what I want.

I'm going to make this Prius last despite what the enviro weenies say.

That 15w50 is too thick for a Prius. The engine needs to turn on and off as the car runs. For a car that's designed for a 0w20, the thickest you should ever want to go is 10w30.

I tried 15w50 in my 400 hp Subaru in the summer and I felt it was too thick. I can't imagine what it's going to do in your Prius.
