Some new tools

Didn't want to beat my dealer up everytime, But he still gave me a decent deal at $1,100. Total list is $1,289 plus tax.

Many years ago I found a snap apart key chain with two rings that was made with what normally was a 1/4" drive universal without the x center part. The rings for each key chain went through the holes that normally the center X went through. And the 1/4" male mated with the 1/4" female. That snap apart two ring key-chain worked well for many years. It NEVER came apart unless I pulled on it to come apart. After I sold the car that I was using it on I lost it. I asked around and was told that Snap-On use to give them away, but no longer did. So I bought a new 1/4" Snap-On universal to take apart and make a new one. That was a mistake. The metal that Snap-On uses is soooo hard and tough and rugged that it was impossible to cut the X in the middle of that thing. That 1/4" universal was one tough little tool. I swear that if you could connect it in series with a Craftsman 3/8" universal and then torque the two of them to see which one would break first, my money would be on the Craftsman 3/8" breaking before the 1/4" Snap-On would break.

The strength of there tools is very impressive to say the least.

Who ever decides what metals to make Snap-On tools from at the Snap-On factory, must know a lot about what alloys have the maximum strength.

Those torx bit sockets are sexy! I'd pay $10/week forever for those tools. Why not, I've been doing it all my life lol.

only disappointment is why they would skip 11 and 16mm on the impact wobbles. Not common, I know, though I do encounter 11mm fairly often... just doesn’t seem right to skip them.

Nice tools man. I want to get one of the Snap-on ratchets because I only have my Matco right now and my vintage Challenger, P&C and Husky ratchets and I want a fully fixed head to have so I don’t have to use the locking flex head all the time or wear out my vintage ones. Hard to find good ratchets anymore. I’m saving up to buy it I had thought about giving the Harbor Freight one a shot but wasn’t sure how that would hold up. And those sockets are cool I’ve never seen the extra deep ones.

11mm & 16mm are covered with 7/16" & 5/8" standard sockets, Don't really need those sizes in semi deep. I have a full set of shallow wobbles (8mm, 10mm-19mm) & a full set of deep wobbles (8-19mm, 22mm)

Beautiful tools. Such a pleasure to work with Snap On.
I inherited most of mine from my older brother who owned Comprehensive Mechanics in Santa Cruz, CA.
Greg got cancer and died at 44. He left me 2 SO boxes and hand tools.
I have no clue how to use his engine building tools.
He was the local go to guy for the 4 cylinder Poesche engines.

What is your reason for choosing Snap On bits over VIM?

The snapon bits are better bits, stay sharper longer and dont break as easily as others. In the rust belt its often the difference between getting the bolt out or not.

Cornwell now sells a full set of extra deep sockets in 1/4 inch drive, 4 to 15mm. That set was worth every penny

I bought a set of VIM metric allen bit sockets @ 15 years ago, They were junk. They may be alot better now? It's one of those "Once Bitten" thing with me. Having a good Snap on dealer also influences my tool purchases.

Good to know....Cornwell is the only other tool dealer I have, Though he only stops by every month, Wonder if he'll break a set?

I wish we had a Cornwell guy. We have Snap-on, MAC and Matco. All my Cornwell has come from the pawn shop or the Cornwell website.

I've never seen or touched a Snap-on.

The most expensive mechanical tool I have is a CDI torque wrench. I have couple other cheap torque wrenches from Home Depot (Tekton). Every other tool I own is from Sears or Lowe's (Kobalt) or Home Depot (Husky) and Hardware store and even Costco.

I've had nothing but issues with MAC & Matco dealers. Just lately, Had a Matco Pilot Bearing/bushing Remover break, Hunted down a Matco truck & he said "That one has been discontinued & the upgrade will cost $50 cash".......I said, You keep this POS & I'll keep my $50!

Never had a Snap on or Cornwell dealer spout off nonsense like that.

Not really, There are good mechanics that don't own a single Snap on tool. Tools don't make the mechanic. The most important tool is between your ears.

CDI is owned by Snap on & makes Snap on branded torque wrenches.
