So, ya'll say Havoline is about the best oil, huh?

$1.18/qt is a very good price for Havoline and its easily one of the top 3 dino oils. I say stock up and use it with confidence up to 5,000 miles.

Molybdenum disulfide isn't the same kind of "moly" used in most motor oils - it can have a tendency to fall out of suspension as it is solid matter that's insoluable in oil for one thing, as far as I am aware. Rather, an oil soluable form tends to be ulilized - Moly DTC ("Moly dithiocarbamate", I think).

Check this thread and see how many uses this compound has has...http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=21;t=000032 .

It has been noted that additives not only complete the lubricant package for it's intended purpose, but can also make up for inherent short comings of the base oil itself relative to other bases. I'm not bashing this oil, just trying to broaden the understanding, that's all.

$1.18/qt? I've seen better at Checkers... 89 cents/qt plus a mail-in rebate to bring the price down to 49 cents/qt. Now THAT'S a deal.

Well, I got an opnion as to why we folk in the South don't see the $.50 per quart deals-

You see them mainly on the West Coast and up North. Goes back to supply and demand. I'd say there are more people in the South going and buying oil at the parts stores and changing it themselves, whereas up North it's too darn cold much of the time, or people just don't do it themselves.

Out west, you got more tech geeks and fancy folks that would never in a million years figure out which cap to remove to pour oil in, not to mention which bolt head to put the wrench on to get it out.

Just my opinion.

And, by the way, $1.18 for a quart of ANY motor oil around here is a STEAL.

Greater demand dow South? Well, that might be true, I dunno. Here in NE TX, other than the WM oil, it's rare to see anything current for near $1/qt. Last spring, or summer, or fall, I forget, the Fred's Discount chain(think of a larger dollar store) had Havoline for $1.15/qt, & I missed it. New Fred's sale ad to come out Jan 30, & Uncle Stu's gonna make sure to get one & look!

Well, maybe out west and up north, we don't have a wifecousin to watch our youngin's in the trailer. Why just yesterday I was commenting to my significant other about how great it would be to buy a banjo and move to Alabama, so I'd be around fellow gearheads who find pleasure in changin' oil in their Duster's. Hee-Haw!

Seriously, if it wasn't for all those "tech geeks," you'd be pouring oats in your mule...not oil into your engine.

Geeze, what a simple view of the world!

BTW: Just my opinion.

Well it aint no Bama heat wave in Chicagoland now and I'm planning on changing my erl this here weekend. Up North we can handle a little cold as well as the heat. Ya'll would freeze yer tatters right off! I Lived in Jasper Al. for a year and most everybody I knew congregated at the local Walmart to git thier erl changed, Pennzoil only pleeze.

Heee!!

I wonder what the inner-net would be like if most of the folks posting on the Forums had a sense of humor?

Anyone else think that link is **.. in it the trop-artic test results are HUGELY different than the motorcraft??? arent they the same oil pretty much?
Makes me wonder if they just didnt run the test 100 times and pick the best result for amsoil and random results for the others...

Note: I am not anti amsoil.. just dont like some of their odd marketing and tests that I personally believe are rigged.

What's up with this? Somebody writes some little comment about things the way he sees them, and gets sarcastic, political-correctness crap thrown at him. Maybe this'll get the thread closed, if so then sorry, but as they say, get a life. What he said was absolutely true as a generalization, and if you've ever been to the south, and to any other part of this country, you will see exactly the cultural difference he was talking about. Does anybody doubt this?

Being overly sensitive to harmless comments only makes it impossible to have real conversations about anything, which is a big part of this country's problem, in my very humble opinion.
