Nothing. Just calling out FACTS. I've owned more Fords than any other brand in my life.

And I've owned quite a few vehicles..

Go spend sometime reading my posts. I've ALWAYS called out stuff no matter the brand over the years.

Did I specificly say NEW or USED GM? No I didn't.

I cant imagine actuallt taking a smart car on any sort of lenth road trip. Didnt they try this approach one time before with the YUGO. I admit I was really impressed with the crash tests of it. I still feel safer putting my wife and family in a full size luxury car such as a Lincoln or Cadillac. I dont agree that cars are safer than they used to be. I am pretty sure a 1973 Cadillac Elderado would have gotten through the concrete barriers.

Not saying the earlier versions didn't have a problem. But you knew they did fix it. Maybe a fairer(less biased) comparison would be to a similar age F-150, here is one from a 2004 F-150, still four years older than the "Smart"....which would you rather be in a high speed wreck in?

Go read the FIRST post. He was comparing a smart to a 1998 Nissan. And then to bigger metal.

I'm proving that bigger is not better.

I deal with accidents all the time and trust me, I'd rather NOT be in an accident. But if I had to I'd rather be in a something well designed instead of bulk mass.

My 19 yo wanted one of these, so I said let's go drive one.

On the way home after the test drive I didn't have to say a single word. Our 19 yo simply said "I think I'll look for something else".
 
Yes, but what about properly designed mass against properly designed lighter mass....thats the point. Because the Smart is the safest small car does not mean anything when you consider the odds of being in a wreck with a similarly small mass.

All other things being equal bigger is better, you're not proving anything.

As far as bias goes, you said yourself you knew they fixed the problem. The 2004 F150 data is out there, yet you cherry picked the older model to demonstrate your point. While the 2004 video clearly demonstrates the exact opposite.

Whatever, label away....but, for the record. Notice I'm labeling the F-150 97-2003 as a poor design. Clearly acknowledged in my post that the problem existed. Yet you label me as biased for linking to a more recent test, for a model that is closer in age to the Smart.

+1...not much much point in having a short car where parking spaces are marked out with a fixed size.
 
Again, the Smart was designed for an environment, I know that having lived in London (England) driving a Full sized American car in an Urban area would be impractical if not intolerable or ridiculous. Or a car that might be just fine in the Highway may not perform well if you drive off road.
In terms of Safety, perhaps the driver might just be safer in a Smart, feeling a little vulnerable, rather than feeling 'invulnerable' in an over sized vehicle (personal observation here)

Small, fast moving objects are hard to hit. Certainly nobody ever managed to hit me when I was buzzing around Detroit 40 years ago in a TR-4 or running back to Pennsylvania in it. I have put hundreds of thousands of miles on small stuff like my current Cavalier without getting killed yet.

If you are really concerned about staying alive, drive sober, limit the cell phone, and in general pay attention. Yes, major accidents happen to careful drivers, but is that really an excuse to drive a tank?

Why? Taking it on the interstate to get to work and going on a road trip are two different things, at least to me.
 
Soooo, What your saying is that it pretty much is a glorified golf cart and it would only be practically as a around town car and you would have to have a "big person" car to actually travel beyond city limits. My mistake.

You have a point Quattro, problem is the idiots don't get the point. I can just see someone on the Dan Ryan or Kennedy in one of those sardine cans. But then again if its rush hour you're only doing a max of 20/30 anyway, unless you're on the far ends.

Pretty much. Have you seen the size of cargo area on this thing? I think any kind of road tripping is more or less out of the question in this thing.
