Smaller Motorcraft 820s Filter

What does everyone think of the smaller Motorcraft 820s oil filters compared to the older slightly larger 820s?
If anyone has any input either way let me know...Thanks.

Have one on my Triton now - - pleats perhaps more tightly packed. Not sure why they changed.

I've used both and don't really have an opinion one way or another since I haven't cut any of them apart. No real performance difference that I can tell.

I have been chopping oil filters apart for over 10 years. The trend is toward smaller cans if any, and less media inside. How that affects engine life? Very difficult to say. A smaller filter may or may not have less media, and less of a better media could mean a better filter. As long as it says Motorcraft on it, I don't think Ford would tolerate garbage.

No difference as far as I can tell. I don't think they would skimp on quality, though.

Helps me with clearance during removal on the Crown Vic, don't know about quality issues.

I have read several times that they still have the same amount of media, they just shortened the can. Not sure if it's true or not.

fordiesel69 cut one open and found the media is only 1/4" shorter, but that there were more pleats.

I agree w/labman: as long as it says "Motorcraft" on it and is still made in the USA, I don't have a problem with it.
