Long timer lurker of you oil experts. Now it’s time for me to post a question for you.
May be unpopular but on my 2014 Tundra I replaced the OEM cartridge filter setup with the Baxter Performance spin-on adapter.
Recently I updated my skid plate to a more heavier duty RCI aluminum one. With the Baxter adapter and the new skid plate the clearance between the oil filter door bolts and the oil filter was way close. Since I plan to take this truck on more rough adventures/overland trips this concerned me. I didn’t want any oil filter to skid plate contact.
After sophomorically researching on my own for a smaller filter than my FRAM XG3600, I found that the Toyota 90915-YZZD3 is just a smaller version.
After install, I had a lot more clearance which made me happy. But, my question to you is, are there any detrimental effects to this switch?
I know that the Toyota/Denso filter may not be the best filter. It’s just what my Wally World had at the time.
Thank you.
P.S. - Ignore the oil mess on the skid plate
