Sludged, oil didn't drain with plug removed

Found this on youtube...
Oil drain plug removed and the there was so much sludge that it was blocking the flow, guy had to dig out some sludge before it would start to drain... ouch

I'm not sure putting oil back in that is going to be a good idea. .. It may need some cleaning.

From Blackstone labs: TBN is a little low at 0.1. Particulates and wear metals are off the scale. Oil has thickened to a 80 weight. Try 40 miles next time.

I saw that happen a few times in the '60s, and maybe once in the '70s. What is under the valve/cam cover(s) would be of interest.

That's better than a high school buddy with a mid 90's Firebird with the v6. Pulled the plug and nothing. Had the original fill at 3xk. Put 2 quarts of Rislone and told him to take it easy for a week. Something came out then... not sure how long he drove it after.

Saw it happen in the late 90's on a leased Lexus. 36k miles on the original oil & filer - no top offs. It needed a new engine - it was not covered by warranty. I don't remember if the drain was blocked by sludge, but when the plug was pulled, nothing came out. The oil pan was removed and nothing dripped. Sad.

They will scream this happens if you go over 5k on dino or 7.5k on syn, that the car took too many short trips, and that oil is cheap but engines are expensive.

More like: The oil had a strong smell of tar and viscosity was well above spec at 100 cSt @100C; however, wear was consistent with averages for this engine and TBN came back at 1.2, indicating some additive remaining. We recommend sticking with the same interval this time and seeing how things look.

Pure abuse ... I can imagine how clogged up the oil pump screen must be on this engine.

So is that 4.0 in the Courier (sludged engine) the same as a 4.0 in a Ranger?
