While on vacation a good friend of mine who is not mechanically inclined asked me to take a look at his 2010 Chevy cobalt.
The complaint? Engine “shakes” and races at stop.
Inspection of dipstick revealed clumpy sludge, with no oil reading....
We decided to change the little oil that was left.
When we pulled the cartridge filter this is what we found...
Unsure of how old the filter is or how many miles were on the oil.
Best i can figure this may have been a 3+ year 30,000 mile OCI, with Amsoil as the last known fill.
I would say it was in full bypass, but the bottom of the filter housing had about an inch of standing sludge so who knows?
