He / she must of made it to the pond on the other side of the road because it was not on the road or the side when returning home . Took the photos from the driver seat with window down . Couldn't move it due to blind corner . Have moved others in the past .

We had snappers bigger than that in SW Connecticut. Some had moss on their backs.
They seemed able to hiss at you.
Amazing animals.

Careful when you move them as they can easily remove a finger.
Their jaws are the sharpest 'looking' things I've ever seen.

Upstate NY we have painted turtles crossing the road.
I'd bring 'em down the marsh on the other side of the road and they'd flip franticly when they got within a foot of the water.

I wouldn’t have touched that one. The tail is a dead giveaway it’s a snapping turtle. It would have hurt!!

Other turtles I’d be happy to move.

I move them all the time , they aren't a real friendly creature. Don't seem to appreciate it at all .😡

^^Absolutely. I was gifted a gopher tortoise. Cool critter, stupid gift.
Well at least you weren't gifted a solcata tortoise known as (east African desert tortise). A youtuber wanted a turtle for Christmas when she was seven. Apparently out of all the Turtles her parents picked out "Tiptoe " who is now 175 lbs 5 feet long and will live roughly 100 years old.

I used to pick up smaller snapping turtles off roads when younger , too slow now 🧓 . Snapping turtle would win , they're deceivingly fast on their feet to turn around . Still pick up painted turtles off the road . Had a large snapping turtle walk on the creek bed between my feet while standing in the water when I was trout fishing . Stayed very still as it passed through 😬 . It went under the creek and walked onto the other bank . Was 15 or 16 and remember it vividly .

Did see the head to help identify . Didn't want to spend much time parked on the road due to blind corners where drivers go too fast . That's why I couldn't get a photo of the whole turtle .
