Or using the amount of additives the manufacturer had in mind when they made the car in my case. If it makes an SL oil an SJ that is....

I would think a thin oil would be the last thing you would want in an air cooled engine. I just put Valvoline VR1 Racing straight 40 in my lawnmower. Has 1300 ppm zinc.

So how much would 1 bottle of this boost a 4.5qt sump?

Take the weighted average of 16 oz of SLOB to your 4 quarts of oil. Say your oil has:

Zinc: 749 ppm
Phosphorus: 609 ppm
Calcium: 1556 ppm
Moly: 360 ppm

and SLOB has:

Zinc: 4898 ppm
Phosphorus: 4921 ppm
Calcium: 4279 ppm
Moly: 0 ppm

Then the mixture has:

Zinc: (749 x 4) + (4898 x .5) = 5445 / 4.5 = 1210 ppm
Phosphorus: (609 x 4) + (4921 x .5) = 4896 / 4.5 = 1088 ppm
Calcium: (1556 x 4) + (4279 x .5) = 8363 / 4.5 = 1859 ppm
Moly: (360 x 4) + (0 x .5) = 1440 / 4.5 = 320 ppm

On a GMC Truck with 83k, should I use SLOB in Amsoil with 7k on the fill looking to go to 10K or just use the Amsoil...?

Isn't there at least two types of ZDDP, alkyl (diisopropyl) and aryl (di-p-TOP), and neutral and basic forms of each? How do you know your getting the same form of Zinc that is in a quality motor oil? Maybe this stuff is lowest bidder stuff packed in a fancy bottle?

The bottle is fancy? It's pink with a riced up Civic del Sol on it!

Thanks Tall Paul, no problem adding one bottle at each change to a car with a 4.5 Qt sump right (it will be going in with 5-30 M1, in a VQ nissan engine)

Ohh and i presume this and LC would mate nicely?

Thanks guys

That's what I thought. I did a little web searching, and CD2 is a "Turtle Wax" owned company, and the SLOB isn't even on their website as one of their products. Weird.

the large hammer of the EPA came down on SLOP, VSOT and all the other PCMO high ZDDP level oil chemist in a bottle wonder snake oils. moluke may have even been driven out of business by the EPA

won' be long until the crankcase is sealed, only to be touched by factory and EPA approved service centers

"moluke may have even been driven out of business by the EPA"

So, the one bottle of SX-UP I purchased may be the ONLY bottle I'll ever get to use?

Better back up the truck for VSOT right now!

maybe i can scam the big lots into selling SLOB for $1.

even though i'm hearing i shouldn't run it in my 92 Galant 2.0 SOHC with 140k or my 2001 5.4 with 90k.

the bottles look nice on the shelf though! well, i had to put them in my back seat, old lady got sick of seeing my stash.

What about all the boutique oil suppliers: Redline, Synergyn, Amsoil, Cosworth, etc, etc? Seems to me that those who are addicted to SLOP would just move to oils that already have a high percentage content of some form ZDDP. The EPA going close down all the boutique oil suppliers too?
