SL oil versus SM synthetic

Got a steal of a deal on a old forgotten case/six pack of Quaker State 5w50 Synthetic SL.
It even had some very fine light tan to graphite colored very fine sediment in the bottom of the clear bottles.
Brought back memories of my Wine making days.

What did they add to SL to make it SM.

I have a 01 Corolla so SL will not kill it.

Shake well before using.....

Took about 10' of shaking to unsettle the sediment. It looked like very light cirrus cloud as it began to re-enter the oil.

wish i can find an old stash of SM 5 or 10w30.

Half the oil I have is SL rated and I got about 160 quarts

Thanks for that, the better half can't understand why I stash about 50 quarts of various oil for the "family fleet" of 4 cars.

I thought i was somewhat of an Oil Tycoon.

SM took out some Zinc and replaced it with some other more advanced adds, either will be good oils.

But 5w50 certainly isn't the right viscosity for that engine though. It won't kill it, but certainly won't help it.

Agreed, yet from some research on BITOG I see some add a quart of 5W50 to a 5W20 or 5W30 oil change to concoct a slightly thicker viscosity.
Will not use for the winter OCI.

Shake well, I'd pass on winter use. If I had it I'd use it up a qt at a time for my summer OCI's or use it for make up oil during warmer weather. That is what I've been doing with a few qts I have of some old Mobil 1 Red cap I got cheap.

Briggs outdoor equipment winter full synthetic 5w30 is unrated so prob SH/SJ level adds. 5.98 at Lowes. No, I didnt buy any (YET!)
