I've used up my first tank of gas with an entire 16oz of MMO. Now I am curious if I should run another bottle through? The first tank through, the truck was somewhat quieter but performance and MPG's didn't go up. Maybe it's just my driving habits but I only acheived 200 miles out of this tank when I can normally get about 230-250 miles on a 16gallon tank. I know that's not something to write home about in my truck but still. I do not plan to use MMO as a regular treatment from now on since I have nearly a full gallon FP. Should I do another mega dosage or is it not necessary?? Thanks,,,,AR

Yea I know it sucks but that's what I'm hoping MMO will help me out with. I've been using FP for over a year now with even sometimes shock dosages at a rate of 2-3oz per 5gallons. So yea, one would think by now, my fuel system is pretty clean. All things considered of everything I've done to it to keep my truck running top notch, I think maybe a used oil analysis is in order to find out what's going on. Maybe the title of this thread should've been, why am I getting **** poor mileage in my truck? Then again, I've posted a recent thread about that in the Mechanical Maintence Tips & Tricks forum. That's why I'm aiming for the MMO to help me out, if not, then it's time for a used oil analysis because I'm stumped from here,,,,,AR
AR, my wife's '95 Explorer 2x4 (similar engine/trans/chassis to a Ranger, if you have the 4.0L V6, but a lot heavier) gets 12.5mpg in strictly city driving (with HER driving). On the highway (70mph) it gets 22mpg. And, with ME driving in the city, it gets 14mpg.
What I'm trying to say is your mileage is not abnormal IF it's mostly city driving.

AR, why don't you do an economy run. That is, just for the fun of it, do a long trip on the interstate to visit someone and plot your mileage? Surely this will establish what your long, interstate-like, economy is. You've gotta be doing something screwy to get such dismal mpg. Your OBDII system should be sending codes if something is that out of whack. If you're getting 24-26 on the highway ...then you have to look no further than your right foot for the cause of your poor gas mileage.
Big O Dave- My truck has the 2.5L 4banger in it. I do recall somewhere, someone said that some people drive inefficiently w/o even realizing it. I might be one of those people??
Gary Allan- I've always did want to do an Interstate run. Not just to track my mileage but I do love to drive long distances. I am not getting codes at this time and when I recently had my timing fixed(too far advanced) the computer didn't send any codes but man the engine did sound bad. Thing is, I don't run the A/C that often either so......... Thanks,,,AR

Also A/C doesn't really cut your mpg down that much ...not much more than rolling down your window does ...so you may as well be comfortable and crank up the a/c even at gas prices at 2.50 a gallon and if a/c were to cost you 2 mpg what is that 2.00 if you left it on for an entire tank? hey let her rip brother ..it is 85 degrees here in Tacoma WA today and if I weren't on my mototrcycle I would have had the A/c going full bore!

I'd be fortunate to get 200 miles out of one of my two 20-gallon tanks of my '77 454 pickup.
The very best MPG I got was about 10.75 strictly freeway driving. It gets about 6-7 MPG around town. Sure is fun to drive when I can afford it, though, even if it does have that distinctive "glug-glug-glug" sound at idle!
As far as a second treatment of MMO goes, AR, it sounds like in your case it may not be needed but it wouldn't hurt either. Just my opinion.

I have the same experience with my '83 F250 with a 460. It slurps gas, but it is a BLAST to drive. Power is intoxicating.
And, I agree, another dose of MMO would not hurt and very possibly, could help. I love the stuff.

I posted the same results a week or so back.
I put a heavy dose into my 91 BMW, and it just so happened that I ended up with my worst MPG figures ever! Engine sounded a bit quietr, but MPG sucked.
I think that everyone wishes for better MPG from using additives. A lot of posts on here would have you believe that your engine is copmpletely fouled up and in need of deep cleaning if it ever idled for but one minute. This just isnt so.
It may be very true that your engine and systems are pretty darn clean and A-OK. Nothing is going to help when theyre clean, as there is not much to improve upon. The key is to maintain cleanlieness and lubricity for longevity, not necessarily economy.
I think some of it is locality-based as well...
