I think a 7/80 no deductible is like $650.I don't think there's a lesser mileage and year warranty.
With 5K a year,I probably wouldn't buy an extended warranty.I like peace of mind,though.

At that price, I'd probably get it. While that's not a lot of miles, if it's a lot of short trips it could be a lot of wear, and 8 years is a long time. One air compressor and you've come out ahead.

If you are living from paycheck to paycheck, then maybe it is worth it, especially if you can finance it into monthly payments.

My viewpoint is to "self warranty" ALL of my products, that way I certainly win.

The only product I have bought the warranty on (and not lately) was the early laptop computers.

Agreed. Many times they are of no help anyways...

8/120k is the longest you can get through Hondacare. It's fairly cheap for Accords, I believe < $1200 from curry or saccuchi Honda.

The thing you do have to remember with these policies is that the dealer cannot approve claims, they have to call into Hondacare and get approval for every repair. Even though its a "Honda policy," the dealer lacks the same authority they usually have.

In so many instances, extended warranty contracts are writen to take the customers money. Way too often, the items that fail are not listed in the warranty contract. One needs to read the contract and figure out which parts may need replacing under that particular contract.

As CR Mag has stated; buying an extended warranty is like placing a LasVagas bet against your vehicle. Sometimes it paysoff but, most of the time, you loose!

I have a friend that always buys the contract. Often, he never keeps the car long enough past the factory warranty or, the items that fail(after the factory warrenty) aren't covered in the contract and(AND) he hadn't read the contract! So, he pays for the repair anyway!

Not only did he pay >$1000 for the extended warranty contract, he paid for the repair too. I also know folks that pay in access of that $1000 for an extended warranty. How much are the warranty contracts today??? IDK!

It's a gamble that the contract companies take too! They're hoping that the owner of the car pays for a contract they'll never use and gets rid of the car sooner than later, which is often the case. People do this all of the time!

IDK, IMHO save your money and pay for the repair yourself.
The extended warranty only paysoff when you have lots of very expensive "COVERED" items fail under "THAT" warranty. You wouldn't believe how many people think that the whole vehicle is conered in "THAT" contract.

Key words..."COVERED ITEMS"...Read the contract!

Bought a 7-year/100K warranty for the SVX in 1992 (last new car and 1st extended warranty ever purchased)... Had a $50 deductible.

This was on top of the 6-year/60K Subaru factory powertrain warranty.

It was a warranty purchased through the Dealership and had the following contractual provision: if there was no claim made on the extended warranty within the warranty period (i.e., before 7 years OR 100K miles) 100% of the $1100 would be refunded by the Dealership.

There was no claim and the $1100 was refunded in 1999.

That was a good warranty.

Cheers!

If you can get this kind of deal, sure: if not , no need IMHO.

I'd say wait.

+1 on waiting and probably never needing it.

Someone at work purchased their 8th Honda new in 2008; a 4 cyl Accord. For the first time, they bought the extended warranty.
At 60,000 miles they noticed it was losing a quart every 1,000 miles. (They actually found out they were 2.5 qts low after 2500 miles.) Went to dealer, dealer did consumption test (owner brings car to dealer every 1,000 miles), one of three cars having this test done the others being 6 cyl. Took engine apart, removed pistons and rings, called warranty company (this was not a Honda ext warranty, read the fine print)warranty company agreed to pay $3,000 negotiated repair bill (retail would have been higher). Not an isolated incident, google "2008 Honda oil consumption". Friend at work goes to pick up the car last week and they are now tearing down a 2010 accord for the same thing.
Hit or miss. Of course they are thankful they bought the warranty. Total out of pocket was $80 for a new timing chain while it was apart.

Tough call. Automatic V6 Accords don't have the best track record as of late, but then again my Dad had an '04 (one the "worst" years apparently) that he put 160k on and never had any problems. Bought it new and just followed the maintenance schedule.

As others have pointed out, if you do buy one, get Honda Care and buy it from one of the dealers mentioned.

Oh, and that SVX warranty sounds like the best warranty ever. Something tells me you can't find that anywhere.

A Toyota dealer near me offers the same deal.
If you don't use the warranty, you get a full refund.
However, the warranty cost was list price.I think the refund has to be used on a new Toyota but I may be wrong on that.

You have to think of these things as insurance policies rather than a manufacturer warranty. Most people are familiar with how insurance companies operate.

As my previous post said, I wouldn't buy one. But, with only 5k a year driven, I definitely wouldn't buy one.

Save the money and change the ATF more often, ~15-20k/2-3years if you must. Cheaper insurance imo, compared to the EW.

FWIW, I own a 3.0L V6 Accord with no extended warranty.

Nice car, congratulations on the new ride. I think Honda's V-6 engines are among the smoothest on the planet. I've driven a lot of V-6 engines, but Honda's is like "buttuh".

Word of advice: your dealer can deal on the Honda Care. I bought a certified 2008 Honda CR-V last year and they offered me the Honda Care for something like $1300. I said, "look, the last time I bought a warranty on a used car, it was Toyota's extended warranty and I paid half of the list price on the warranty. Let's not play games and tell me what your bottom line is on the warranty." He said his bottom line is $600, so I bought it for that. I normally don't buy extended warranties, but I think 600 bucks to extend the 7/100 powertrain warranty to bumper-to-bumper is probably a fair deal. I probably won't use it anyway.

Someone once said put the money in the bank, use it for repairs if needed, if not put it toward your next vehicle.

I read people getting use out of them all the time on my Lexus board. I wish I had an extended warranty. Just me I guess. Typical me going against the grain again.

I would spend the extra grand in a minute to let them own the car for the next 10 years. OEM extended warranty only no aftermarket.
My brother would be 15 grand easy to the better if he would have bought one for his 05 Honda.

All before 10/100
2X transmissions (both Honda OEM rebuilds)
1X steering rack
2x PS pumps
2X automatic sliding door mechanisms
2X front struts
2X front wheel hubs
1x rear main seal leak
1x O2 sensor
1X navigation LCD display
1X rear hatch closing mechanism
1x fuel pump
And quite a few other things, all after the basic warranty was over all on his dime.

It doesn't take long to spend a grand these days on a repair, in fact just the fuel pump installed at a dealer is $900.

My extended warranty for my truck was around $2000.

Total payout by them since my "factory warranty" ceased I estimate at well over $5000.

SOME of the list includes:

A/T
EVAP
Steering Rack - twice
Intermediate Steering shaft
Front ball joint
Horn
Rental cars

Never had a problem with them. Decide carefully who you choose.
