Just got back from the local auto parts store. The only oil I could fine in the store that actually had dexos on the label was Mobil 1 at $9 quart. I've seen the sheet of dexos approved oils, but they don't have dexos on the label. Not even the syn-blends.

I'm not comfortable with putting oil in my car that's not dexos approved on the label as that's what's stated in the owner's manual.

Is there an alternative (cheaper oil) that I can find somewhere?

Thanks.

Wal-mart used to carry a Pennzoil Dexos blend. Not sure if they still do or not.

I got some PP from Kmart and it is GF-5 and SN but there is no Dexos graphic on it? I thought it was on the list.

Good idea to use something actually Dexos certified while under warranty.

The Quaker State Ultimate Durability mentioned above is, and if you have Walmart the best bang for the buck.

If you don't have Walmart, you can get pretty good deals on top quality syns like Mobil 1 at auto parts stores if you watch for their oil change specials, which will include a filter and usually knocks the price of the oil down to 5-6 bucks a quart.

Thanks everyone - I'll try Wal - Mart.

If Mobil 1 is the only oil with dexos on the label - then that's what I'm going to get.

To the OP: What kind of car/truck? Hi perf, or not? I'm sure that ANY API SN will suit your vehicle's needs. Do you think most people who don't know diddly about their cars and, if they remember to get their oil changed at some quicky place know or even care about dexos? Your car won't know the difference.

Change the oil conservatively. DON'T do and brag about 15k oil changes with filter change every 3rd change or some similar non-sense. I liken some folks here to loading up 5 out of 6 chambers in their revolvers and pointing them to their temples when it comes to auto care - just because they want to extract the last 0.00000000000000001% from their oil life.

Find an SN oil, install it, check it, change it conservatively, and sleep well at night.

My car is just a 2.5L 4cyl Malibu. Nothing special.
But I'll spend a couple extra $$ to get dexos on the label if that's what the owner's manual says to use.

+1

This is the cheapest Dexos1 I could find during my last visit to Walmart. It was retailing for $4.57 a quart, only 20 cents more than Motorcraft Syn Blend.

Any Pennzoil Platinum or QSUD that is API SN & GF-5 is also dexos 1 compliant. I've used those two along with Mobil 1 with good luck so far.

As for any API SN oil meeting dexos 1, unfortunately that is not the case.

+1 ?? you mean Mobil 1? Yea I know it's got dexos on the label.
If that's the cheapest - thanks! that's the info I was looking for.

I've got Mobil 1 at Costco on sale for $4.40 a quart - it's not on sale now.

Don't know - if dexos isn't on the label I'm I buying the right product? There was a post sometime ago that said GF-5 is not dexos - dexos is a higher standard, so no I'm not trusting it if GF-5 is on the label and no dexos.
