Tony Scott noted RC30 and RC45 engine tuner recommends Shell Helix Ultra but I don't know
about this new stuff which is marketed to "bikers" because we are not "bikers" we are riders
and there is a big difference...

out what bikers want from an oil, whether they ride in congested cities or on open roads."

Come on haven't you seen the Progressive insurance and Allstate ads? Everyone who rides is bearded, Tattooed and wears a leather vest.

Shell recommend Advance AX7 15w-50 for the Sportster.....not easily available in NZ.
The Helix Ultra is $19 litre locally vs Delvac at $6 litre in 20 litre pails.
Shell sold all their NZ gas stations to the NZ Superannuation fund a couple of years ago, now Z Energy, and since then Shell oil products are getting harder to find.

No kidding... thanks to the media starting with this staged Hollister photo to the follow
up Wild One movies to the current ads we are all "biker trash"...

Well, Shell Advance Ultra is available in the local store over here. Majority of the motorcycle riders seem to prefer Motul and Castrol - don't know why, tough. Perhaps just a habit.

Yep, it is often forgotten by us here in the colonies that Shell is a foreign corporation headquartered in The Netherlands and England.

Ah yes, the elusive Shell Advance 4 Ultra. Ask any Ducati owner about that. You see, Ducati puts a "Use Shell Advance 4 Ultra Motorcycle Oil" sticker on the clutch cover of the engine. Then when you buy a Duc in the Western Hemisphere you scratch your head trying to find the stuff... because it's not available here. However, it's Spectro Oils to the rescue... Spectro Platinum 4 Ultra... wow what a similar sounding name. And Ducati dealers here sell Spectro...

Can't even say whether or not the Shell stuff is Group IV or III (or III+), but Spectro Plat 4 Ultra is a PAO/Ester blend, as is Amsoil's MCF and MCV.

spectro's pricing similar to amsoil's with free shipping possible depending on where + how much you order. they give some specs but not a lot. i will stick with amsoil!! i only change yearly at end of Penna's riding season, prolly 2 to 5 thousand miles, i keep things a while so a few more $$$ for quality oils is money in the bank!!!!!

According to the Shell technical help line technicians here in OZ, the Advance Ultra 4 is largely a group IV PAO.

I looked at the sticker on my Testastretta 11* engine again. It actually says "Use only Shell Advance Ultra 4 Motorcycle Oils" (bold emphasis mine).

Seems to indicate Ducati wants us to at least run a PAO based oil.... a "true" synthetic, if you will.

I remember scratching my head a few years back when I bought a 2010 Ducati Monster (new) and saw that sticker on my clutch cover. Having spent a great deal of time overseas, I had never seen it although I had seen Shell Helix quite a bit!
