Shell HDEOs and others, in Australia

Any idea what kind of analysis that Shell Rimula R6 M has? Or how it compares to Rotella T6? Any chance it is exactly the same oil just with different name?

The Shell Rimula R6 LM is more meant for energy conserving aspects, I believe.

Shell R6M is totally different than T6.
It is 10W40, not 5W40
It has a TBN of 15.9 and ash of 1.9%.
It has no petrol approval, it is designed for European truck diesels only.

All the specs are on that link. No equivalent to T6 is sold outside North America, although if you are looking for an API CJ4/ACEA E9 oil Rimula R4L 15W40 fits that description.
If you are looking for a 5W40 for Euro4/5 diesels, try to get some Delvac 1 ESP. Or Delvac 1 LE 5W30.
What engine/vehicle are you searching for oil?

Sorry for offtopic and hijacking. I need something other than Redline for this. Nothing wrong with the Redline just not available locally. Perhaps Mobil 1 Delvac 5W-40 or Mobil 1 0W-40 as they are or with a squirt of RL or Lucas break-in additive? The Vette's main concern is the flat tappet cam.

Just use Mobil 1 0W40. For heaven's sake don't use Rimula R6M; you'll foul your plugs in a hurry.

The Red Line 5w30 will work fine, but is probably overkill for an '86 L98. Those don't rev high enough to require such an extreme oil.
Brad Penn in 0w30 grade would do. It's main claim to goodness is the zddp that you need for flat tappet cam protection.

I ran my '85 L98 all through the 1990's on Castrol GTX. During those years, I was doing up to 20 track days a year, reaching oil temps of >280F on the hottest days. Never did blow it up. The engine has over 100k miles now, and still runs good. (Did 6 track days with it last year.)
I did a cam swap in 2004, and went to a roller hydraulic. I now run it on Mobil 1 5w30.

Ummm....this guy is in Finland. He can't buy Redline or Brad Penn exactly locally. That's why i recommended Mobil 1 0W40.

But I was responding to his statement in the other thread that he linked to where he said he could get Brad Penn.

I thought that kind of strange, too, but went with it just the same. I was recommending the 0w30 grade out of respect for his frigid Finnish environment.

I was against the Mobil 1 0w40 because manufacturer recommendation for that engine is 5w30.

Thanks guys for the suggestions.

It turned out earlier that the only Brad Penn they imported was 20W-50 and 15w40 - at least last year.

I'm under impression that the GM recommendation 5w30 is from energy conserving aspects and that the L98 engine is just your average normal small block Chevy with normal clearances ie. just about any of the 0W-30...5W-40 would do viscositywise.

Yes, the L98 is a traditional small-block Chevy with port fuel injection. It makes peak power at 4800rpm, and should be shifted at 5200. Therefore its oil requirements are not exceptional, except for the flat tappet valve train. If you put an SM-equivalent oil in the engine, it would be a good idea to supplement it with a zddp-additive to get the Phosphorous content up to ~1200ppm.
