I see I am not the only one who dislikes the search engine. I really hate the fact that I cannot search longer than a 2 months, no matter what time frame I select. The one I hate the most is that the search engine spits out the replys to a post, so there could be a post about GC, and then I search for GC and the original post shows up and so does everyones response to the same post about GC.

When I use the search engine,on the date range I blank out the "newer than" and select 5 years on the "older than". It`ll usually pull up anything I`m looking for.

You want it to be "newer than" 5 years and blank out the older than part cuz you want it to be newer than 5 years and older than 1 day

The poor search functions are frustrating because this forum contains a lot of knowledge that's not easily found elsewhere.

Although you can't specifically search for thread titles, Google works well to find relevant posts.

For example, using the following query gives about 80 different occurrences of the word STP

stp site:www.bobistheoilguy.com

Use the red bottle, it's about half as thick as the blue and should be about the same zddp. Stinky Peterson (RIP) at Butler Caterpillar Labs did a VOA on the red bottle 4-cylinder STP in March 2005. I have the hard copy analysis results. Here is the data:

Calcuim 1371 ppm
Phosphorus 1814 ppm
Zinc 1959 ppm
100C vis 108 cSt

All other parameters <10 ppm (most 0).

Ok here is my plan. I want to spike Supertech 15w-40 with it. I want more Zinc and to make the oil a little thicker.

Truck holds 12 gallons. Should I add about 12 bottles of the Red bottls STP?

Why not spend a few dollars more - instead of (12 X 3 = $36 more) and purchase a higher quality 15W-40 like (hypothetical) Delo 400???

That would give you 18 cSt approx. Since the Red is for 4 cyl engine, it would be a ratio of one bottle to 4 qts, so your numbers are right on. There are a couple of serious considerations:

1) Will any STP product hold up to the higher bearing loads of a diesel? Better call them and make sure. Of course it's a diesel if it holds 12 gallons, right?

2) If you are trying to get rid of some existing oil then you are stuck, but if not, find something thicker and better.

3) Why do you want the oil thicker?

4) Redline makes a nice diesel oil with gobs of zddp, all that you could need or want.

5) If you really have a diesel, I expect you will get better info posting a question in the diesel forum at this site.

I bought 12 gallons of ST15w-40. Now I'm afraid of using it after seeing the VOA. I can't afford to go out and buy $120 worth of oil right now.

The engine is a diesel, is 46 yrs old and the hot oil pressure is 10psi below spec.

As I said I'm broke (Been put on part time work) and I can't afford to replace the worn out cam bearings right now.

There used to be STP in truck size jugs years ago try a truck place. Just don't drive it much ,,,10psi at goverened RPM? $4.00 dollars per gallon would make me not drive for pleasure. Do you get 4 or 5 mpg in the truck?

No specs is 55+psi @ 2100. I get 45 psi @ 2100.

Truck gets about 9mpg on the hwy.............3 mpg better than my gasser pickup lol

No. But it's starting to bug me. It's due to be changed IMO.

I already bought the ST oil last summer. Infact at the time the specs on the bottle were simmiliar to Delvac 1300. Would you guys keep 1yr old Rotella in or put in the ST?
