I put an old mattress out by the road this week either for someone to have for free, or for the trash dept to collect. They pick up stuff like that one day a week. A scrapper stopped, cut the mattress open and took the metal coils, and left the remainder. 😂 Good on him I guess. Trash dept picked up the scraps.

I live in a pretty good neighborhood, but if I need anything gone, all I have to do is sit it out by the curb. Normally doesn't last 12 hours. My dryer was gone before sundown a few Saturdays ago.

trash transfer stations need aluminum cans, cardboard and scrap metals for a revenue stream to offset the cost. The scrapper cost them some money

Here on the mountain; guys would’ve taken whole box spring and mattress. Everyone hears with firewood.

Some guys take anything metal or scrap able up here. Brother junks old gear sets and anything he can.

Haha !! Then don't charge US to pick it up. Or, set a fixed amount then deduct from it based on weight that's in our bins.

Live a quarter mile from a big river, anything put out will be gone by the end of the day, lot of homeless camping in the river.

I've put a number of things out to the street over the years, and the scrappers always end up taking it, I'm sure they loved the dryer motor and 150-200lb of brake rotors I left out a few weeks ago.

Or even better. My sentiment for years has been to heavily tax the people with really full trash bins, especially if they have recyclables in them. I recycle just about everything and rarely have even a half-full trashcan.

We’re only allowed 1 garbage can per week here, so I take fairly massive amounts of cardboard to the local recycling dumpster, & an xB-full of other recycling (foam, bubble wrap, etc.) to a recycling place called “The Hub” in Cincy every other month. And steel, motors, compressors, copper, brass, & aluminum regularly to the scrapyard. Over 1500 pounds of steel & bad machine parts yesterday.

Same here - our recycle bin usually needs mashed down to close the lid while the garbage can typically has (2) bags total.
