If conditions support it, probably. What driving conditions do you have?

I'd do a used oil analysis at 5K and see how fuel and TBN levels are.

Probably not then, too much TBN loss and/or fuel dilution. Analysis though is the only way to know for sure.

only a used oil analysis can tell you for sure..but with a good running engine a quality filter yes you should be able to or come close with your driving style.

take it out for a good rip once an a wile

Thanks! the vehicle is a 2005 chevy tahoe 5.3, it is a great running engine but it has been serviced at a garage down the road for half its life and they use lousy advanced auto parts oil, im wondering what effect it will have on the engine going from garbage to the best

Well there is one possible negative which is actually too much of a positive. If the advance oil caused the engine to not be totally clean, cleaning it could expose leaks in the seals.

Fortunately, Advance doesn't make their own oil but contracts out to Warren who does make good oil so you should be fine but there's always a chance of a bad reaction. You should try all of the synthetic offerings to see which one your truck reacts best to.

There are many fine oils out there today, even from some lesser known companies. I have seen some good results from even the most inexpensive of oils.

I would be more concerned with how long you were going on cheap conventional oil in the past before changing it, if they were doing the 3 month 3000 mile routine your engine should be fairly clean save from a typical conventional oil varnish that it leaves over time.

The 5.3 GM v8 can be kept very clean with synthetics though.

thanks! the oil got changed when the oil life monitor said it was time, witch was usually around 4,000mi

Using the Royal Purple will have some cleaning action going on in that engine if you used conventional for its whole life span.

I would put the RP in there and follow your oil life monitor or change at 7500 miles whichever comes first.

Are you also going to pair it with one of Royal Purples superior synthetic filters? I am a bigger fan of their filters than their oil, but their synthetic oil is better than any conventional for sure.

If not a RP filter maybe an AC Delco or Purolator classic for the first couple of OCI then switch to a Purolator pureone. If there is some light sludge in their a filter like a Pureone is more likely to plug up from the cleaning action of the synthetic.

I am not familiar with the oil analysis on Advanced Auto parts conventional oil, so i do not know how "garbage" it actually is, but if you stuck to the oil life monitor and changed before it reached zero i am sure your engine is in good condition. For all we know Advanced Auto oil may be a very fine product for 3-4k oil change intervals.

Conventional oil does typically leave a varnish on the engine but keeping to the OLM will prevent the sludge usually.

Have you heard of Auto RX before? I have heard nothing but good things of it and it could give your engine a good cleaning if you can afford their product.

/end long post
