Looks like my fills 😷

Excellent collection of data as usual SuperBuick! I have once again created a bump chart of the last 5 years, and a pie chart of the percentage of oil changes per brand for people to peruse. 🙂

Here is the bump chart.

Noteable things.
  1. Mobil still hangs on to top spot, but as you can see in the percentages below, the gap has closed significantly. Most likely due to the new Valvoline Restore and Protect wave of oil changes.
  2. Quaker State has dropped a place, along with HPL.
  3. Super Tech has gained the two places that were dropped by Quaker State & HPL.
  4. Fram just came and went last year. Popped into 9th place, then disappeared again this year.
  5. Kirkland has gained a spot from 10th to 9th.
  6. Havoline has returned to the top 10 having dropped out in 2023.

Here are the percentages of each brand. As you can see, Valvoline went from a 14% share last year to a 23% share this year, narrowly missing the top spot by just 1%!

Very cool, thanks for creating these charts! Ive noticed over the years The top 10 is generally the same, with some slight jockeying within the 2-9 spots. Although 2025 was the first year Mobil was given a legitimate run for its money.

I think the results would look far different if based upon miles driven than simple changes. There have been many short OCIs with Valvoline Restore and Protect to skew the data this year.

Supertech trending up the last 2 years. It does seem like the best value option and has held to ~$18 / 5 qts. If there are no big fire sales this year I think it will continue to rise to the top.

Seems to make sense to me. Walmart oil isle. Big names at top. Valvoline Restore and Protect making moves/driving that brand's trend. Mobil 1 no shocker...most popular name in oil. Nice work on data synthesis.

How does this skew the data? This list isn’t about the number of miles driven on any particular oil. It’s simply what oil was used. I don’t think most people are running intervals with Valvoline Restore and Protect that much shorter than they normally do anyway. Most of BITOG appears to do 3-5k intervals already, and that’s also roughly what people are doing with Valvoline Restore and Protect as well.

It would be very interesting to see the data by OCI. But the challenge would be to compile that data.

Nice job as usual. Your time and effort on this is appreciated.

I was hoping Valvoline would take over top spot just so I could have some fun with it. I had some nice roasting comments/jokes brewing. Oh well, maybe next year.

Poor choice of words on my part. The data is what it is. The difference in OCIs between Valvoline Restore and Protect and other contestants may give the wrong impression to the casual observer. I personally ran one OCI with Mobil 1 Extended Performance to 20k miles last year. That one change would alone counterbalance 5 x 4k OCIs with Valvoline Restore and Protect on a mileage basis.
