Howdy, my friend recently purchased a 1997 Acura Integra GSR from a local tuner shop. It has 125K and the only modification to the motor is a GReddy turbocharger kit. When he picked it up he was given a receipt showing it had a fresh oil change with Kendall GT-1 5w30 and a quart of Royal Purple Break-In Oil. The guy he dealt with in the transaction said they always put in a quart of the RP break-in oil after installing a turbocharger kit, run the oil for 1500 miles, and do another oil change. Is this ok or should my buddy do an immediate oil change? Is this "break-in" oil basically regular Royal Purple with some extra additives?

Thank you.

I don't see why they would use it in that situation on a car that already has broken in valve train. To my knowledge it just contains a lot of extra zinc and phosphorus.

With only 1 quart in there though i don't see why you can't run it for the recommend 1500 miles before dumping it and refilling with something fresh.

I recommend Mobil 1 or Redline

Chances are, they do it for the extra ZDDP to protect the turbo bearings. Especially with only 1 quart, it'll be fine. Just run it for the 1500 miles, then change it.

Break in for the turbo unit as stated by the place that did the job. Follow their advice.
