Royal Purple 10w40 For VQ35

I just picked up the royal purple deal at AAP with K&N filter, I couldn't get my Mobil 1 10w40 HM NOT ON SALE !!. Is the RP Comparable to Mobil 1 10w40 HM or better. Im a little worried about the VQ beating on the RP. Hoperfully the RP 10w40 will stack up against the VQ35, Can someone give me some peace of mind.

RP should do just fine.

10w40 is a little thick but warm weather is on the way, and full synthetics tend to flow/pump well regardless of the 'bottle label'.

I'd probably use any 0w40 or 5w40 for the cooler months of the year.

RP 10w40 is probably a step above Mobil 1 10w40. I don't know if I'd run this in the dead of winter, but seeing as how it's spring you should be fine for about 6 months on it.

German Castrol Syntec 0w30 or Mobil 1 0w40 would be my top picks. Cheap, readily available, proven records. Quaker State Ultimate Durability is another good buy if you're more budget conscious.

My 2005 owners manual says you can use 10w40 above 0F.

The factory owners manual specifies it to be one of the warmer temerature viscosity oil.

So you do you think the RP 10W40 it will stand up to the heat compared to the Mobil 1 10W40 HM? I'm a little worried.

Imo you picked the best/one of the best oils for your Nissan. I have some RP 10W40 in my stash that will be going in my Z this summer. It`s a PAO gro IV based oil,so it`ll be perfect in your VQ.

Do you have an Oreilly`s near you? They have the Mobil 1 High Mileage on sale for $4.99 at the one near me.

And I preach heresy. Never bother quoting an owners manual. At 0F(-18c), with how many cams/controllers/valvetrain components/chain links/tensioners.... you know what you really need. Because its 50f out here now, and 60-70f weather is around the corner in a couple weeks, the 10w isn't an issue.

Haven't changed it yet 800 miles on the odo left, I'm not worried about the viscosity I just wanted to kniw how it stacks up against Mobil 1 10W40 HM most definitely change it early.

RP has a 0w40 and a few others more suitable for the motor. You could run them year round. Why not just do that?

because its warming up and the vq beats up oil. i have Mobil 1 0w40 in the car right now.

i do in the cold weather. its warming up now yes i know i can use the 0w but i want to run the 10w. i love Mobil 1 0W40. it was not on sale. so i opted doe RP for a change. I dont think you recognize my engine bay setup very well and how hot it gets, not due to mechanical properties but to a BIG engine in a tiny engine bay. if you think normal vq's drink oil in a well ventilated maxima engine bay... well imagine it in a sentra. And im running dual pull flex-a-lite fans.

For summer time use, I don't blame you for using the 10w-40 RP. I'd imagine you'll be pleased, but I'd like to see a used oil analysis of this next run of yours. Please!
