It was me who made the comment on varnish. After 7,200 miles with the Rotella T 5W40, the varnish was not significantly removed. I am doing an Auto Rx treatment (1st experience with it) to see if it removes the varnish.
My cold-start noise is definitely piston slap.
I did a UOA afte 7,200 miles with Rotella 5W40. Oil was shot due to trace amounts of fuel in the oil (resulting in higher viscosity), but the wear was good (meaning low wear relative to the averages for this engine) and Blackstone recommended staying with the 7,200 mile interval. I will be posting the results soon.
After using some dino to "rinse" the Auto Rx, I am going to try Delvac 1 next.
