RIP Actor Gene Hackman

So much speculation on this thread. We don’t know the circumstances as to why his children had little contact with him. No basis for judging. He could have told them not to call for all we know.

People have the right to live their lives as they wish and not hire a caretaker on the anticipation of a one in a million event (65 yr old wife’s virus). Tragic and unpleasant as this was, I think I’d prefer it to long painful death from cancer or other diseases. Just me.

Interesting follow up on Hackman's estate.

Gene Hackman left his entire estate of an estimated $80 million USD to his Wife and left his children out of the will.

Where it gets interesting is it is reported that his wife died seven days before he died, so his will may in fact be invalid, as he outlived his wife. So, the state laws of New Mexico likely will decided who is the beneficiary of Mr. Hackman's estate. Hackman's children may in fact get the $80 million.

Life takes some unexpected turns.....

Hackman's children not named in actor's $80m will

The BBC article nailed it. Assuming (big assumption here) she is the only beneficiary of his will, I believe it would be the same as if he died intestate. In that case, Gene would inherit all community property when she passed, plus 1/4th of her separate property. His kids would get all of that since she predeceased him.
If the order of death were reversed, her designated charities would get the lion's share (all community property and 1/4th of Gene's separate property). His kids are fortunate she predeceased him.

Probate will divide up everything.

Might take years to get it finalized.
You guys are probably correct. I was only thinking IF one of the siblings tries to go for the grab, for "reasons". Hence my hell breaking loose comment. Maybe there will be all "happiness" in death, or rather satisfaction in getting a third of Hackman's estate. I don't know.

I dunno if she had other relatives. And no trust???

I have no idea what kind of person Gene Hackman was, or his kids are. I suspect the kids weren't happy that their Dad married someone who became first in line for any inheritance. A lot of drama, and disapproval from the kids about Gene being happy with his wife, and Gene cut his entitled kids out of the inheritance. Then the kids cut off any contact with their Dad, because they felt slighted after behaving like petty children.

Or maybe Gene was abusive to his kids, and they couldn't wait to get away from him.

Or maybe neither is what happened.

It's all speculation.

But if I had to bet, I'd bet on the first scenario, as I've personally seen too many examples of that to recount them all.

I know one thing for sure: I won't be spending any more time contemplating what happens in this sad situation.

Feedback can be one sided following a death - some came forward with positive comments - others might just bite tongue
