Looks like a handful just to keep straight.
Race drivers had guts back in the day. Nascar today is ridiculous with all the banging on each other now. While at the time that car was probably cutting edge as far as safety wise for the driver, looking at the video I don't think I'd like to crash in it at 200mph![]()
he also went drag racingPetty also ran a BOSS 429 powered Galaxy 500 at one point, I have a model of it.
Petty switched to Ford for the 1969 season and won 10 races in a Ford Talladega Torino. Petty fans went crazy in the 69 season! He went back to Plymouth in the 1970 season. Don’t know about any other Ford that the Pettys ever campaigned though…ICBW.Petty also ran a BOSS 429 powered Galaxy 500 at one point, I have a model of it.
Yes, that's the car, was a Torino not a Galaxy, doh!Petty switched to Ford for the 1969 season and won 10 races in a Ford Talladega Torino. Petty fans went crazy in the 69 season! and the reason he stopped drag racing because of a young eight year old boy was killed by his car....A couple more. Many people might not know that Richard drag raced a Hemi powered 64 Barracuda for 1 season. Also the 67 Hemi Plymouth that won 27 races in 1967. Edit: Forgot to mention that’s his dads 1958 number 42 Olds in the background!

That was a sad year to see him in a ford product...only lasted a year...1969 was a Ford Torino..Petty also ran a BOSS 429 powered Galaxy 500 at one point, I have a model of it.
Eh, the BOSS 9 was a hell of an engine (as was the Cammer). That was a sad year to see him in a ford product...only lasted a year...1969 was a Ford Torino..
Yes they were but Ill take the Hemi....Eh, the BOSS 9 was a hell of an engine (as was the Cammer).
I watched a cool YouTube video on the Ford 427-428-429 - of course can't find it now.Eh, the BOSS 9 was a hell of an engine (as was the Cammer).
I was going to mention this, but you beat me to it.I remember seeing those mopars sitting and forsale at $500. or so back in the day. Just wish I had the space back then to keep them.
we used to sneak around on the Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth lots after hours to drool over all of the muscle machinery they had back around 1968 / 1969 & 1970 when the lots where just so full of those Scat Pack cars!I was going to mention this, but you beat me to it.
There was a time, up through the eighties, when what are now six or seven figure cars could be bought for very little money.
After all, who wanted a clapped out 426 Hemi car, or an old Ferrari, Lambo, Aston, Maser or Porsche?
Those days have sadly passed and "collectible" cars have become an expensive auction game.
I remember in the late 60s going to a local Dodge dealer to see **** Landy . He was doing a drag racing class and gave many tips on increasing the performance of your MOPAR....and yes he had a big cigar with him....we used to sneak around on the Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth lots after hours to drool over all of the muscle machinery they had back around 1968 / 1969 & 1970 when the lots where just so full of those Scat Pack cars!
