Retrofitting floor mat anchors?

With the announcement of the Toyota recall, I'm wondering if there is a kit sold to retrofit a car with anchors or whatever for the floor mats? My Buick has no hooks or anything, and I have Weathertech mats that don't really fit right and slide all over the place.

Google has turned up nothing, but maybe I'm searching for the wrong thing?

I know my old Honda had a recall for this exact thing...

Anybody know anything?

Buy factory replacement mats. My Monte Carlo has no hook, instead has rubber backing that presses into the carpet and it doesn't move an inch. Just as effective as my Jeep which has a hook.

My Dad once drilled a hole through the mat and floor because he got sick of the mat sliding around!

I had the factory mats originally, they were even worse than what I have now.

The current mats have the "grippers" on the bottom also, totally ineffective.

I guess I am hard on the mats...

John_K, that is intriguing... I will have to see if I can find out how that is attached to the floor.

I have never had any floor mat even with rubber backing work like the anchor type my 2003 has. I have huge feet and every vechile I drive if it does not have the anchor I end up ever 30 minutes having to reach down and pull the mat back! I have driven everything on this earth and none of them stay put for me without an anchor! If I drove an automatic and my feet where not moveing around and doing heel toe clutching and such maybe that would be different but I doubt it. My Mom's vechiles have always been automatics and one of her car's I had actualy take the floor matt out and toss it in the back seat area then when I was done driving I would put it back because it would always gut under the pedals. I seldom had an accelerator issues it was usualy under the brake pedal preventing me from being able to fully apply the brakes if I needed too!

What about drilling a couple of holes thru the mats and zip-tying them to the seat rails? Kinda ghetto, but...may work?

That's probably what I'll do. There are slots molded into the mats already so even easier. I'm thinking maybe a hose clamp and tie down strap, something like that...

I added a hook for the floor mat on an older Honda. Used a newer Honda setup as a model for the hook made from some alum bar stock. Cut a hole in the mat using a utility knife then installed a gromet I picked up the hardware store.

AutoZone used to have a kit with two mat grippers that pinned one to the carpet.
