Assuming evertything else that applies to buying any used car checks out fine - low miles, clean title, well maintained, good price - is it worth buying a 7-8 year old Maserati Quattroporte ?
How do those year models compare to more recent like 2012-2015 ? Any major upgrades in technology or features provided in the car that are not in the older year models ?
And any major known issues with the QP models of that year range ?
Thanks.

Just my $0.02 but if you can't afford to buy these cars new, I don't think these are the cars for you at any time or any price unless you just want to collect.

You're asking on the wrong forum.

I remember looking into them awhile back. One thing that stood out was how often you need clutch replacements done.

While its an interesting car for sure, pretty much everything I saw pointed me towards a BMW M car, an Audi S variant, or a Mercedes AMG car. parts and service more widely available for all 3 of those.

Wheeler Dealers did a refurb on a two door Maserati about that age a while ago. The electronic throttle was a chronic problem and cost a pile to replace. They found a British shop which opened up the sealed unit and replaced the internals with better components. The AC condenser was also a nightmare to get to.

You could apply that to every price category & it wouldn't be true, so it's a worthless comment.

The model years you are looking at (M139) ran through the 2013 model year. The platform for the 2014 QP (M159) is loosely based on the current Chrysler LX platform. The current QP benefits from a lot of borrowed Chrysler electronics and switch gear. Reliability is supposed to be better than with the M139.

That being said, if you purchase a 2008 or 09 QP with your eyes wide open, recognizing that it's going to require more routine maintenance than a Chevy or Honda, and it's going to be relatively expensive, then go for it. I personally wouldn't consider a used QP any different from buying a used Land Rover. They are both great vehicles as long as you know what you're getting into.

Try to find an independent garage within driving distance that works on Maseratis. That will help (somewhat) in keeping costs down for maintenance and repairs.

Here are couple of good reviews of the previous (M139) and current (M159) QPs:

Who are you trying to impress?

There's a reason overpriced luxury cars drop their value like rocks. Up to you if its worth spending way more on parts and maintenance is worth the "prestige".

There is some real value in overpriced luxury/performance cars, including a driving experience you will never enjoy in a Toyota RAV4.

But there are sobering maintenance costs that are involved too.

I'd recommend you check the dealer for pricing on service/repairs you will likely have to perform during your ownership.

If they don't scare you, jump in with both feet and buy the best one you can find.

One is sex on wheels (Maserati) the other is so homely only a blind person could love it.
Lets face it the Lexus is a geezers coach regardless of how good, durable, or reliable it is.

People that buy these exotic cars put up with quality control problems a Honda or Toyota owner would never, ever accept.

If you're not rich with a lot of expendable cash you should buy one of these vehicles once and get it out of your system. Do it when you are young and single and can best afford getting wiped out, financially.

When you do, be sure you also own a beater so that you'll have reliable transportation for the essentials like getting to work and back.

YEs LOL, the beaks on the Lexus models are terrible!

Geezers car, that is funny!

I'd kill myself than be seen driving a toy ota or a lesscux.

I am not going to get into an argument about other non-car and non-technical related comments made here.
All I want to do is find out what am I getting into in the sense if there are any things absurdly wrong with these cars.

That's hilarious considering the cars listed in your sig.

They handle, steer, brake and feel like no other big saloon /sedan on the planet. Way they look in the flesh is something else. Depending on the trim/ Speciality ' they DO hold value better than competitors. Friend service one, cars are reliable, high maintenance though. Parts price depends; from affordable to the very expensive. It depends. Mind, we're in Europe.

Gearbox cambiocorsa can give you headache. You'll know right away if this is a machine for you.

Fiat quality with $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ maintenance and parts I have a friend that has a 328 Ferrari and an other friend with a Berlinetta Boxer and the neighbors daughter has a boy friend that has a Ferrari 430 and some kind of new Maserati. Beautiful cars that I wouldn't want if they were given to me as gifts. If that is your passion give it a try.

I would hardly call an LS460 a geezers car... Maybe an LS400 or LS430 but the LS460 actually has a much stiffer ride. Also 0-60 times of 5-6 seconds hardly qualifies as geezer status.

When I think geezer car I think Buick park avenue, Buick roadmaster, Cadillac Deville,
