Repairing aluminum wheels?

I ran over something this past weekend that bent the aluminum alloy wheel on my Toyota Tacoma. The dealership recommended a place that repairs the wheel. I didn't realize that bent wheels could be repaired and wasnted to ask everyone out there if they've had experienced with repaired wheels. Obviously, the guys at the shop said they were as good as new and balanced when they were done.

Bent wheels can be repaired, if not damaged too badly. It is especially common on high end 1000 plus wheels.

I agree that the wheel should be almost as good as new. I'm running an alloy wheel right now that appears to have been repaired when viewed from the inside. The exterior looks normal, and the wheel runout and balance are fine, and it dosen't leak.

I had to repair all 4 17" alloys that my father-in-law bent on the Tacoma during the 2 years he owned it. When I bought it back from him, I asked what happened. He kinda shrugged and said, "potholes, taking it to the dump, you know". 2 of them were seriously out of round. Ye Olde Wheel Shop in Maryland repaired, balanced, and repainted them inside and out. They look fantastic, better than new, and no wheel took more than 10g. of balance weight. Kinda expensive @ $100 a wheel but still much less than new wheels would have cost.
