So I figured I needed to snowblow the driveway a little bit ago, after the new 4" we got today when I couldn't get up the driveway without backing across the street and flooring it all the way. It made me once again realize how relaxing snowblowers can be. When it's just fluff, and you don't have to work it hard, the steady drone of the engine when it's dark, cold and quiet is one of my favorite things about winter. Just about the only time I like snow anymore.

I call this "waking the night". At the house where I grew up we lived on a dirt road where the nearest neighbors were a half mile away. We had a long driveway and after about 100 ft away from the house it was pitch black. All I could see was directly in front of the snow blower (no light on it), and hear the sound of the engine echoing off into the woods.

Now we live in a neighborhood. The driveway is much shorter, the houses are closer together, and when I did the driveway two days ago a bunch of my neighbors had their blowers going too. It sounded like a low flying wave of Cessnas.

Or the police siren after neighbors complain about the noise.

I find snow removal relaxing too.. Except I cheat and use a cabed tractor. Sometimes the heater gets too warm and I have to open up the back window. Lol.

Fortunately we have a newer OHV chonda one that isn't too loud unless under heavy load.

Nice, I have an old Toro...thankful she works though!

Hearing a toro single stage cackle like a chainsaw adds a twist to the standard drone.

I got my chonda tuned to not surge. A surging neighbor's blower interrupts the bliss.

Power outages bring the drone of generators too.

I like the relaxing sound of ocean waves on the beach.

I like cold weather just not the snow and ice.

I enjoy the sound of an engine working-it's one of the reasons I like mowing.

When I was a kid I used to cultivate using an Allis Chalmers G-I spend hours watching plants pass by underneath, listening to the drone of that little Continental engine. It was rather relaxing-almost hypnotizing.

I can hear the ocean right now, and also the Golden Gate Bridge's fog horns right now, because the wind carries the sound towards me. In a couple hours, rowdy ravens will chime in.

My snowthrower is a combination of me and the shovel. Can't say that I enjoy the sound of the blade scraping on the driveway. I'm too cheap to buy a snowblower, even here in Michigan. I need the exercise anyway. But it does take a true act of will to get out of a warm bed at 5am and go out to shovel a foot of snow.

One good thing about living in the South...At least you don't have to shovel humidity.

I find snow blowing to be a chore as our typical snow consistency is very wet/slushy typically and it clogs a lot due to coastal location.

The recent storms though have be fine powder so simple task to eat 15-20" of loose powder with my commerical grade 24" simplicity.

I was pushing snow last night as well with the tractor. With the full moon it was nice and I didn't really even need the lights on. I've got a 7' blade on the back and with it facing backwards, its kind of neat to watch the snow roll off of it and extra grunt of the motor when it starts pushing a full load into the banks.
I also pushed up a big pile of snow in the field so the kids and I can dig a tunnel or fort this weekend.
