How Red Line labels an oil should be taken with a grain of salt as they meet no API approvals.
More importantly is which Red Line grade your referring to and remember in switching to any Red Line oil to heed their advice and drop a grade.

I agree.
Mobil 1 SM 0W-40 routinely goes on sale a Cdn Tire for 8 bucks and change, is lighter than Red Line 5w30, especially on start-up and of course it is an approved lubricant.
Red Line 5w30 while a decent lub' is getting rather dated. I don't think it's changed much in the past 15 years. I much prefer their 0w30 for a street drive Bimmer but ofcourse Cdn Tire never carried that. (Wild Goose in Stoney Creek has good prices on all Red Line products).
BTW as I understand it Cdn Tire has discontinued carrying Red Line oil and I picked up some Red Line 5w30 on clearance from their Appleby store in Burlington last fall for $6. I'd wait for the price to drop further.

No, GC is fine. But if you are going to return the RL, yes, get the Mobil 1 0w40, which is lighter on start-up than both oils, and has far more approvals than GC and is in general a much more modern lubricant.

You could easily argue that meeting modern approvals doesn't make it any better. Lots of posts here about Mobil 1 0W40 being not as good as the old formula.

I for one consider the performance criteria an oil must meet to obtain its list of approvals as well as the certifications it achieves through extensive testing to be more important than how it "sounds" in application, which I feel is wholly subjective, and not necessarily representative in any way, shape or form of how the lubricant is actually performing.
However, I would say both are excellent lubricants and it is good that we have choices like these and at what I consider reasonable prices for the performance criteria they meet.

David from Redline got back to me.
He confirmed that this is just old label. And oil is fine for my E90 and no need to be afraid.
So now I don't know if I should return it or not.
Isn't Redline a better oil then Mobil 1 0w40 ... all used oil analysis for Redline are outstanding.
