How does Redline get this high of a HTHS value?

TYPICAL PROPERTIES

API Service Class SM/SL/SG/CF
Viscosity Grade SAE 5W20
Vis @ 100°C, cSt 9.1
Vis @ 40°C, cSt 55
Viscosity Index 145
CCS Viscosity, Poise, @*C 50@-30
Pour Point, °C -45
Pour Point, °F -49
Flash Point, °C 251
Flash Point, °F 484
NOACK Evaporation Loss,1hr @ 482°F (250°C), % 8
HTHS Vis, cP @150°C, ASTM D4741 3.3

And their 5W30 is pretty stout:

All the ester based oils have a high HTHS as compared to their KV (40 and 100 viscosities). G-oil is another example of an ester based oil with a pretty low KV and high HTHS. I believe the KV is a low 5-30 but the HTHS is 3.5.

By using a heavy 9cSt base oils.
Heavy base oils like this are usually used just for 30wt, 40wt and 50wt finished oils.

This is an old formulation that pre-dates RL's 0W range of oils.
With it's low 145 VI it's not competitive in most applications and should only be used where a mid-grade 30wt oil is required due to it's HTHSV of 3.3cP.

Redline's 5w20 barely qualifies as a 20-weight only because its KV100 number is 9.1. 0.2 higher and it would be a 30-weight. But in the engine, its 3.3 HTHS means it is more like a heavy 30-weight. You can use it in any engine that calls for a 30-weight.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I also believe Redline is unique in using the D4741 testing method for HTHS while others use a different test method. Therefore, the numbers for Redline look higher than normal.
