You make it sound like varnish is inevitable at 203K. I don't believe that has to be the case if you keep your oil changed often.

All the idle time and low speed off-road throws a wrench in mileage based changes.

The idle time and off road time definitely makes mileage not a very good way to calculate.

Interesting suggestion on the gallons consumed. I had thought of changing per gallons of fuel used but never thought of how I could do it.

It never occurred to me until now that I can use the gas mileage log to change every 400 gallons.
