New Pentastar oil/filter recommendation

I vote for using an oil that meets the owner's manual spec requirements with the highest HTHS until warranty is done, with an OE filter at 5k intervals. Zero push back if things go sideways. We have a 2025 1500 in the shop, needs a new V6 engine at 25,000 miles.

I run my 2016 3.6L JKR on ESP 0W30 or 5W30 with a Fram Ultra filter. I stocked up on the Ultra filters years ago, and still have a few left. No problems to report. The first thing I did when I got home from the dealer was dump the 5W20 factory fill and used an XW30, I haven't looked back.

What happened to the engine? What is HTHS?

Came in with a misfire, either valve or piston issue. I'll check with the mechanic this morning. Has a sketchy maintenance record. We'll see if it gets covered under warranty.

For the 0-30 folks, any effects on mileage? Are you doing uoa? What has it improved for you overall? I am asuming it runs quieter. Is the current, most modern pentastar still specd for 30 weight in other countries? What are the favorite 30 weights on the forum? Any shearing i.e. might 5-30 be better?
I couldn't tell a difference between 20 and 40 on my 6.2 and i hand calculate at the pump

I run 30’s in my Jeep - right now Valvoline - but just got a jug of Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 for my next change. (This filter)

for the people that worry about warranty….
1. go to walmart/parts store
2. buy appropriate oil per owners manual
3. scan receipt for records
4. exchange for oil of your choice. i wouldn’t and don’t run anything lower than a x-30. everything i touch after a HPL Engine Cleaner run gets a 0/5w-40 including brand new GM pickups that spec 0w-20/5w-30.

i service two pentastar motors frequently. ram pro master and a jeep cherokee. both get HPL 5w-40 at 12k miles with a CQ premium/extended protection filter.

to date, have not had a failure on a DOD system in a LS/LT motor over millions of miles traveled. they’ve recently been on 5w-40 for 12k miles. but before would mostly get valvoline/mobil 5w-30.

So to the regulars here, based on what you have seen on here, what would you say the percentage is that prefers 30 vs 20?
Negligible in my case for the Durango, still getting 22-23 a week back & forth to work and 25-27 highway trips on cruise control.

What happened to the engine?
The technician removed the spark plug from misfiring cylinder 5 and found a piece of the porcelain tip missing and bouncing around in the combustion chamber. The tech boroscoped the cylinder and found the porcelain piece scored the cylinder walls, which resulted in a long block being authorized as a warranty replacement. An uncommon failure, not related to maintenance according to the tech.

I've had 3 PUG engines over some years, running 0w-20 to 5w-30. I keep track of mileage with Fuelly and truthfully I have never noticed a measurable difference is mileage.

As I mentioned I'm currently using Mobil 1 ESP 0w30. It's a 0 weight for cold starting and offers more film strength at operating temps over a 20 weight.

My Gladiator is still a pretty new engine but I do plan on a used oil analysis next oil change.

Will be interested to se uoa

Ok now im convinced. As we are coming into warm season, im thinking Quaker State Ultimate Protection 5w30 for the first couple quick changes. Then a 0-30 of some kind. Like the looks of ESP. Plan on 5k changes after the first couple quickies. Agree?

I would run 5k out the gate if using xw30, depending on how many miles you have on it...

We have a '17 JK Wrangler that has about 151,000 on it bought new. Used Penn Plat 5/20 and Mopar filters, with an occasional Purolator. Runs nice and quiet, I hear a lot of different things about the Pentastar, I would like a newer Jeep, but don't know what to think!
