When should I do my very first oil change on the Pentastar 3.6L V6 engine on the Dodge Caravan?

Does it come with a special break-in oil from factory that I should run until the recommended OCI occurs?

Interesting. Dodge dealer?

I haven't heard of the 1000km suggestion yet.

Jeep/Dodge dealer. Mine is a 2012, so it gets the 5w30

2012=5W30
2013=5W20

No special break in oil is used. I won't suggest when to change the factory fill for fear of a flame war. LOL

Just bought one myself. I'm probably going to dump the FF at max 5k km (3k miles), refill with Pennzoil conventional, run for another 5k km, then start my OLM dictated OCIs with the Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 I got on sale for $18 a jug.

Umm...I dont think Pennzoil conventional meets Chrysler's specs for the Pentastar.You would need a synthetic.

Most name brand conventional oils meet the Chrysler spec.

Agreed, Mobil Super meets the spec (Chrysler MS6395) but the synthetic Mobil 1 line does not

Of course it would! PU is the FF for the Viper IIRC?

Entirely up to you. Some say it makes no difference to change it out early, some say your nuts if you don't. Go in between. Change it earlier than normal for the first two oil changes like I'm going to

Here goes. Some guys will tell you to drop the FF early, at 500 miles, or 1000, miles, or 2000 miles, etc, to get the break in debris out early. Others will tell you it is complete waste of time and money. Lots of threads here covering it, in fact they average about once a month or so. Another plan of attack is if you have an OLM wait for it to light up, hopefully before 6 months. Otherwise follow the owners manual which probably states 6 months or x amount of miles which ever comes first, at least that's what my Jeep OM states. Read up on it, decide which method you think is better for you. Enjoy the vehicle!

Totally true. 3k OCI's are like a dinosaur still hanging around.

Dumping the FF early is just like a BIG oil filter, it's strictly a "feel good" mod. But all it really does is waste perfectly good oil.
